Loved your pics of you and your sis when kids..I just love those old pictures...

Sounds like you are going to have a grand day, seeing the new baby....time for Gran to snuggle and cuddle...I am envious, those new babies are so sweet

I do remember the curling irons...my mom used to make me stand up on a chair, and she had that big old curling iron heating up in the gas burner of the stove...

Then she came at me with that thing...you could smell the hair burning...sometimes she wound that thing too tight around my hair, and burned my scalp...

I have absolutely straight hair, so mom was always using that curling iron on me, to give me my curls...I remember looking at my old kindergarten pics, I had these lovely big sausage ringlets all over my head...looks like mom was working overtime on that one...

Since my hair was so very straight naturally, mom was always try to make me have curls...when she got tired of using that curling iron, and setting my hair in curlers, she then attacked me with her home given permanents...I looked like a big frizz ball for weeks...

I was such an ugly little girl, that poor mom was always thinking that curling my hair, would make me look better

One time in Chicago, during a hot humid summer day, when I was about 6 or 7, my hair in the front of my head kept flopping into my face, and I remember running into the house, and asking mom if she would please pin back my hair...she was in the middle of something, and told me to wait...well, when she did not come, as fast as I thought she should, I took matters into my own hands...I grabbed the scissors, and cut all the hair off the front of my head...ah, I thought, now I feel better...

Well, I did not feel better for long...when mom finally came to help me, I just remember her screaming in horror, as she observed my 'scalping' as she called it...poor mom, stuck with an ugly girl child, and now that girl child had what could only be described as a somewhat mutilated mowhawk haircut...even with the best of hairdos, I could only be described as 'passable' in looks, but with this new haircut, I was downright screaming ugly...

And to make matter worse, my hair always grew slowly...I never ever had long hair, as it just never grew that long...so it took forever for the butchered part of my head to finally grow acceptable length hair...in my school picture, following the butchering incident, I am quite a horrendous sight...seems that altho I had clipped off most of the hair on the front top of my head, I did somehow manage to leave a handful of longer hair...so mom used to pincurl that little handful, and for a year, I was almost bald in the front part of my head, except for the one little curl...

I really was a ghastly child...

Well, finally the husband has left...it began to turn into a fiasco, last nite, when he was packing.....he could not find his dress shoes, or his baseball spikes, or his cemetary locator map(he plans to do gravestone rubbings of our relatives buried in Chicago cemetaries)..

Now, my hubby has more than the usual share of odd quirks...and one of those quirks, is that he is somewhat paranoid...so when he cannot find something, he thinks I am hiding it(When a cop drive by the house, the hubby thinks they are looking for him, even tho he has done nothing wrong)...he does not believe in the word 'coincidence'...things are always planned according to him...most times he is able to keep this paranoia in check, but last nite, when he could not find a few things, I saw the smoke coming out of his ears, and his brain was smoking, and I could see him get ready to accuse me of hiding his stuff(Good grief, why would I hide his stuff, I wanted him out of here)...

Anyway, finally he found his dress shoes, and his football spikes(which he himself had too well put away, as he had a devil of a time finding them)...never did find his cemetary locator map...

Anyway, finally at midnight he went to bed...I stayed up watching Tv...then I got him up at 2am, cooked him a nice breakfast of steak and eggs and hash browns, toast, coffee and oj...

Then he finally got ready to leave...went outdoors at 4am, and waited for only 5 minutes, when the airporter came and picked him up, and whisked him off to the airport...

As the airporter drove off, I screamed 'Halleluia'...I never thought I was going to get him on his way....then, being as I never went to bed, I finally dozed off at 5am, me and Dizzy cuddled together in the bed...

I had to remind the hubby that he has not flown since 9/11, and so the security might be much more stringent that what he was used to in the past...had to remind him of this, because if they dared to search him or his luggage, he would think it was some sort of a conspiracy against him...

Just now checked American Airlines, for a update on the status of his flight...it left on time, and should be landing at Ohare in about 1 hour...So in the end, all is well with the hubby, and I will need a few drinks to get rid of the headache he gave me last nightk with all his whining about his lost shoes...

Men, cant live with em, cant live without em...

HAHAHA - what a great story of the self-haircut... And paranoid hubby too! I can relate. Not only did I once have a boyfriend that accused my dog of taking his keys when he couldn't find them, I also once cut my own hair as a kid. I cut off my goofy pigtails my mom would put in high on my head on each side because I hated them. So was scalped short on each side and long in between!

I would love to see a picture of you in the ghastly stage with the self-cut and the pin curl! Did she allow photos during this period that you can post?

I do have a few pics of myself with my haircut...my dad loved to take pictures all the time, so he photographed me, no matter how I looked...

At present, I dont have a scanner, but do plan on eventually getting on, so when I do, I can post my weird pictures...

When my boys were little, they very much enjoyed looking at pics of me and the hubby when we were children(Somehow your own children, when they are little, dont ever think their own parents were once children themselves)...

Anyway, my boys were looking at the pics of me, with my snappy haircut, and they were just laughing so hard...then they asked me, "Mom, why did you look like a man, when you were a little girl?"

FMAO! We may need to get you a book deal also - those two stories are HILARIOUS. Thank you so much for making my afternoon. Hold off, if you can, and we'll fire up the drink machine in the near future. ;-)

You're gonna need these two weeks to get your head screwed back on properly.

Glad to oblige...somehow being on these thread, and Grannie posting all the pics of herself and her family, leads me to reflect on my childhood, and all these old memories come up...glad to share them, and glad you enjoyed them...

I need to head out to the dreaded grocery store now...Dizzy is out of his snacks, and I am going to buy myself a few bottles of wine and chill out(When the hubby is around, I just usually drink beer, as we like to sample various microbrews together)...But I also like my wine...so its off to see what the store has to offer me...see ya all later...
