Thanks, Madame. I hope we have designed this new house to be rodent proof, since it is pretty far out in the country, but I won't know until we move in, and fall has come and gone. Hint: metal soffitts and rodent-unfriendly ventilation grilles mounted in a steep, metal roof. Hope it works, or I will be buying stock in Raid.....

No need to apologize. I think there is something wrong with my media player. It downloaded but it just won't play the music. I get the picture of the mouse and all.

Not on the keyboard but on the monitor, yes. Does that make any sense?

I am downloading the player again just in case something got screwed up some how.

I like the mouse so I would like to hear the music too.

We kids spent much of every summer on the ranch with she and my granddad, doing ranch work and (in the eyes of today's nanny liberals) being "corrupted" with conservative values and proper party etiquette. Hey, that's why our parents sent us there........

Hey, that's why our parents sent us there........

I think it sounds like a wonderful plan and to top it off, it sounds like a lot of fun.

I spent a few summers in Houston with my grandparents and I always had a good time.

Have to head off to dinner now.

See you later.

"Just sit yourself down and get on the outside of a of some hooch". Oh-here's a clean ashtray, too.

Sounds like you had a great granny there, Tex.

I have no doubt the bar is in trusted hands while Joe is gone. But here's a joke whle I wait for my Corona

A man walks into a bar one night. He goes up to the bar and asks for a beer.

"Certainly, sir. That'll be 1 cent."

"ONE CENT!" exclaimed the guy.

The barman replied, "Yes."

So the guy glances over at the menu, and he asks, "Could I have a nice juicy T-bone steak, with chips, peas, and a fried egg?"

"Certainly, sir," replies the bartender, "but all that comes to real money."

"How much money?" inquires the guy.

"Four cents," he replies.

"FOUR cents!" exclaims the guy. "Where's the guy who owns this place?"

The barman replies, "Upstairs with my wife."

The guy says, "What's he doing with your wife?"

The bartender replies, "Same thing I'm doing to his business."

I'm thinkin' cat, lots of cat.

I'm more of a dog person, but you can't beat a cat when it comes to rodents.

I remember once when my mother had a squirrel in her cellar.

We came to visit with our dog, fearless squirrel stalker, she'd sit for hours staring up a telephone pole at the squirrel sitting up top.

We sent the dog down the cellar to do combat.

She immediately ran to the top of the cellar stairs and clawed at the door, begging to be let out.

I could be wrong, but I think a cat might be a little more cold-hearted in this situation.

She was the greatest, and my dad followed in her footsteps both with us and our children. I am ready, willing and able to continue the family tradition with my grandchildren when they arrive (soon, I hope). Our new home is being built with the comfort and entertainment of siblings, grandkids, nieces, nephews, in-laws and out-laws in mind.

Hahaha! That's funny! Our two dogs try to climb the trees in the back yard to get to the squirrels (and possums) barking and (the Husky) howling viciously the whole time, but I really wonder what they would do in a confined area with one.

We had a big neutered male Siamese who passed away at the age of 22 about 12 years ago. He was such a ruthless squirrel killer that I finally had to keep him indoors because he would lie in wait under the trees, snatch and kill a squirrel when it came down into the yard, then rush into the house with his trophy as soon as the door opened, upsetting everyone and making a mess on the floor. His successor, a large apricot-colored persian refugee from the animal shelter is death to rodents, but I prefer that he confine himself to mice as hunting items, since they are not well liked. Squirrels are rather cute and clever.

My Dad died three years ago (age 78), and I've been thinking ever since that his generation was the last link we have with the no bullshit generation (for the most part - there was that Alger Hiss, Roosevelt thing). The baby-boomers (me) have one foot there, and one foot in the whiney wimp generation. The last, weak, itty-bitty link.

Gotta keep the spark alive.

My dad died five years ago at 76, and he was my idol. You are right about the "no bullshit" thing. I think that those of us who had a proper upbringing are leading, and hopefully the rest will follow in time. Our kids have embraced "no bullshit" and personal responsibility from day one, and we very proud of that fact.

Our cats have a similar habit of displaying their trophies. They are always catching snakes and they just love to bring them up and leave them right in front of the front door... sometimes I come home and find 2 or 3 there... ack!

Well Joe has been gone so long, I am also going to have to help myself to the bar now...

Put this one on my tab Joe!

Squirrels are rather cute and clever.

Here in the northeast, squirrels are kind of on a par with rats.

I remember when I was a kid my parents' being plagued by squirrels.

If the trees overhang the house and you miss trimming the right branches, they form a squirrel bridge. They burrow into the house, get inside, can damage the wiring and cause fires.

Keep the trees or declare jihad on the squirrels? No contest.

I'm kind of torn though, because I don't hate squirrels. I enjoy them if they're not destroying my house and will actually go out of my way to avoid running over them with my car and all.

Sigh, life is so complicated.Buy you a goodnight drink, Tex? Gotta get up early tomorrow and start stripping another door.

Thanks for the good conversation.

Good luck on the new house.

Cats.

Have at it-Joe doesn't mind, as long as you settle up before you leave.

That Siamese of ours killed small snakes, too-one Spring night we were all watching a movie on TV at twilight when the cat meowed to be let in, so I opened the screen door, and sat back down on the couch. The cat sat down in front of my daughter's chair, and when she put her feet down, she screamed blue murder when she encountered something cold and squishy-a dead snake. Another reason why he was ultimately confined to the house...

Thanks, Madame.

Squirrels aren't as aggressive a pest here, probably because the winters are not so cold. Where we are moving, they are not an issue at all-miles and miles of habitat and not many humans. Good luck with your door-I will be working tomorrow on finishing the stairs to the second floor (which really look bitchin' so far....) Thanks for the good wishes.
