THIS is how a person earns a DOCTORATE at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology??

Probably about normal.Take a look at this place's web site. They are not a regular college or University, they are a graduate level trade school for Psychologists. That is the only thing they teach. They fail or drop less than 2% of their students. This is nothing but a Diploma Mill.

As someone who has personally been through grief, along with my children, I resent these "psychologists" who impose their "expert" counsel on grief-stricken people - usually earning high salaries paid through tax dollars as they exploit us.
So many people encouraged us to "get counselling" after Greg died, as if it was expected and necessary, like breathing and eating. I didn't do it.
Grieving is natural, it's not a sickness that needs treatment... and it especially does not need a marathon to make it all better... and psychologists and their diploma mill schools don't need to make money off of us either and then be applauded for "caring." Are they good people - or sanctimonious (that was for you, ratty *grin*) control freaks?

I have never had any use for Psychologists. Even if they are well intentioned they are incompetent. If you ever think you need help dealing with an emotional problem, go to a Psychiatrist, or Psychopharmacologist.

This is nothing but a Diploma Mill.

When I went back to school, the fastest growing degree programs were: Social Work (Socialists AT work is more like it), Womyn's Studies, and Education.

Some of my undergrad course work from ECU wouldn't carry over to UNC-G, so I had to re-take some courses that were not related to my majors. I have NEVER seen people as stoooopid as the ones who were in the programs I just mentioned. NEVER. Even in my HIGH SCHOOL the students were smarter than them. They REALLY didn't even belong in a Community College.

And it takes a LOT for me to look down my nose at other people, as far as intelligence or lack of it is concerned. I will NEVER set off any brain wave alarms when I walk into the room. I think the 90+ ° heat in the tobacco fields effectively killed the few brain cells I was given at birth. What the farm work didn't destroy, ECU did. hehehehehe!!

But even with my puny intellect, I was light years ahead of these people. And I mean there were a BUNCH of them. Instead of working in a factory punching shoelace eyelets into shoe leather, they will now be working in the government, diligently trying to increase social spending, with newly minted, worthless degrees in hand.

Oh, I nearly forgot, my second major was journalism, and they were not only as stoooopid as the people I mentioned above, but the were also MILITANT about their Leftist views. (In a limp wristed militant sort of way that is.)

Those people probably couldn't even calculate their Grade Point Averages.

I don't do bugs

Yesterday, it was "I don't do sweat." Good grief, Mo. No bugs, no sweat. There goes the summer.

Your family really had a rough go of it, Mo. Few people know how to really help or listen or just be patient, but that doesn't stop meddlers and predators from jumping in as "friends" or "experts" and taking advantage of someone else's tragedy.
At least your mother was spared this new "marathon therapy" trend.
Can you see any improvement in society for all the "good work" they've been doing to this past generation? Every time a school student dies, an army of self-important grief counselors marches onto campus at great cost... and? Then what? People cry? Kids ask "Why?" It would happen without them. The money would be better spent buying pizza and Kleenex.

...and then there are those ratts who do listen long enough to learn of my weakness for Insincere Humility and take advantage trying to make me swoon -- it didn't work, I haven't swooned! Yet.

No .. during the day I'm at the pool and if it gets hot .. a dip in the pool solves that problem and at night when it cools down then I do out and take in nature .. as for the bugs .. well like I said A dead bug is a good bug

See .. I can enjoy the summer

PJ O'Rourke is right when he says anyone who ever dated an Elementary Education Major knows what is wrong with the school system. Most of them couldn't hold down a job a Dairy Queen.

Folks just don't like to see others upset and feel the have to do something

You are right .. Grief is a process that many folks go thru .. sometimes it take other longer but in our own way we pull ourselves thru it .. it takes time and cannot be fixed overnight

Now I will say there are those that can't pull themselves together and really need professional help ..

I hope people who really need help can find it in this treacherous landscape of idiot "experts."
Think of them testifying in court cases..... like the Yates case. They'll be out in full force in the case of the brother and sister who murdered their little 6 yr old brother. Of course both of these little murderers had been "evaluated" before when they committed arson at a school and were investigated for family abuse. They were probably given prescriptions - but the public won't find out. Fat lot of good they've done, but that won't stop them from testifying as experts and making a few more bucks.

those ratts who do listen long enough to learn of my weakness for Insincere Humility

Despite my online personna, if you were to ask ANYBODY who has known me for very long, and probably EVERY person that lives around here, I am sure that they would tell you that I am NOT the kind of person to look down on anybody.

Quite the contrary, if anything needs doing that people feel is BENEATH them, THAT is when they think of me. I am the guy that family members and friends ask to climb down inside hand dug wells to clear out sediment, or to climb 35 feet in the air to fix some dislodged tin on a 50 year old barn with a steeply pitched roof. Or anything else that insincerely humble people would never do.

I have encountered intellectual elitists like the Swervie and others who have TRIED to look down their nose at ME, and I have to admit, it is hard for me to resist overworking my last remaining brain cell, to try and prove them wrong. But I prefer to be around normal people.

I can just as easily sit down and chat with farmers, as I can sit and chat with computer geeks. And if FORCED to make a judgment call as to who is smarter among those two groups of people, I reckon I would have to study on it for a spell.

I am ANYTHING but meek or humble, but I do have the sense to know that I am not better than anybody else trotting around this giant rock. (Except for militant Leftist wannabe college grads.)

Harumph!!

From the admissions section of the school's website:
The 2001/2002 entering class averaged 37% women, 16% men, 9% minorities, and 21% international students, and fewer than 1% disabled students.

37% were women and 16% men --- shouldn't the two numbers add up to 100%? Of course, I R Not a college graduate....

SOMETIMES

Sometimes ...
when you cry ...
no one sees your tears......

Sometimes...
when you are in pain...
no one sees your hurt...

Sometimes...
when you are worried....
no one sees your stress......

Sometimes ...
when you are happy ...
no one sees your smile ......

But fart just one time...

The dog did it - go outside Buster. Kids, stop feeding beans to the dog.

Ratty, you are as smart as I am and at least as educated. The important thing to remember is that you are also at least as crazy as I am.
