The clouds pile up against the mountains, and drop rain to get light enough to get over them. The clouds in the eagle cam pic are piling up against the mountains. If there are enough of them, they back up over us and we get the rain. Thats a simple explanation, in truth it gets complicated, this is one of the hardest places to forcast the weather...

I think they are daylight hunters. That's why you don't see them much during the day. Now they are coming home for the night...The owls take care of the night hunting..

but if they are too heavy
they pile up and you get the rain
