Tennessee slaps back at Christa Pike’s demands to be transferred to cushy unit while she recovers from botched execution

Tennessee officials are hitting back at Christa Pike’s brazen demand to be transferred into a cushy, low-security prison unit while recovering from her botched execution, newly filed court records reveal.

The 50-year-old convicted murder “thinks she knows better than her treating providers and [Tennessee Department of Corrections] officials about how to treat her medical needs while keeping her safe and secure,” state attorneys blasted in the docs, which were filed in federal court on Wednesday.

The fiery remarks were in response to an emergency order filed by Pike’s legal team on Oct. 30, which sought to have her removed from the lockups’s infirmary ward and released back into a specialized, low-security unit with other inmates – despite Pike’s apparently well-earned status as a maximum-security prisoner.

“She once tried to murder another inmate and was disciplined for an escape attempt. She therefore cannot pick and choose any housing assignment,” the state’s response read.

“It should come as no surprise that maximum-security inmates cannot be allowed to roam a separate DJRC housing area that essentially operates as a nursing home.”

Pike, who was poised to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years, spent days unconscious and in critical condition after surviving two doses of pentobarbital allegedly administered with at least 10 needles during the botched lethal injection on Sept. 30.

How does a trained and experienced executioner 'miss'? Needs better glasses?

We have to wait until she is healthy enough to be executed?

Am I interpreting that correctly?

Don’t treat her.

She will finally die.

“...surviving two doses of pentobarbital...”

Why stop at 2? Should have used fentanyl or potassium.

I think execution by drugs is stupid. Hang them or put them in a closed tank and slowly remove oxygen and add nitrogen. Cheap than drugs and doctors and actually painless. You fall asleep and asphyxiate in your sleep. Easy peasy.

They tried this in Alabama a couple times. Seems those nitwits didn’t understand the concept of “Saturation”. They tried to do it with mask.

One other thing; any deaths from nitrogen hypoxia outside of executions (industrial accidents) have, from what I understand, have happened when someone walked into a room or area that nitrogen had forcibly removed the oxygen in the air - death was near-instantaneous mostly from the suddenness of the nitrogen atmosphere.

If at first you don’t succeed..... She knew her veins were small and very difficult to hit when she purposely dehydrated her self. She cheated death and got nothing for it. She didn’t die so that sentence stands.

Incompetence or was it deliberate?

There’s some kind of rule about using medical personnel and pharmaceutical have language about off-label use like killing people. Doctors can’t really conduct the execution because of the “do no harm” thing. The argument can be made about saving another life by removing a known threat.

A .45 ACP round would have been a whole lot less troublesome.

Apparently, medical professionals are not allowed to administer lethal injections or refuse to do so.

Democrats ignore the law when it suits them. Republics used to do that.
