In a blurry red, visually cryptic post on X.com, Tesla announced the launch date for its long-promised second generation Roadster: 10.01. Although the image and text in the post itself don’t confirm that the announcement is indeed about Roadster, Tesla posted a link to go with it, to the Roadster page on Tesla.com, which makes it indisputable: come October 1, we’re getting a big update on the second-generation Tesla Roadster and it may have rockets mounted on top. Or... big searchlights. Or possibly snow blower nozzles. Who knows? The image is really blurry.
If you recall, back on November 16, 2017, Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster at the Tesla Semi event. CEO Elon Musk said at the time that production of the vehicle would begin in 2020 and that Roadster 2.0 would hit 60 mph in 1.9 secondss, hit a top speed of 250+ mph, seat four people, and have a 200-kWh battery good for 620 miles of range. All for a base price of $200,000 or $250,000 if you want a special “Founders Series.”
Tesla originally promised Roadster 2.0 production for 2020, then the dates began to slide, from 2021... to 2022... to 2023... to you get the picture. These postponements were made mostly during Tesla shareholder updates, and were often accompanied by updates from Musk and additional performance promises.
Will there we rockets that make the Roadster fly to 60 mph in under one second? We shall see on October 1.
In 2018, Musk announced a “SpaceX option package” of approximately 10 small rocket thrusters, arranged around the roadster. He reiterated this SpaceX rocket thruster package in 2020 and then in 2024 claimed that Tesla and SpaceX had radically increased the Roadster’s design goals, describing it as a collaboration between the two companies. Per Musk, the new Roadster would be able to accelerate from 0–60 mph in less than one second, calling that “the least interesting part,” and suggested it might “fly a little.” He promised a production-design reveal by the end of 2024 and vehicle shipments in 2025.
The cheapest Cybertruck now is around $72K.

Per the above, estimated MSRP of $200K to $250K.
Well, it’s less expensive than a Duesie J...

Is there that many Starbuck moms left? Thank you liberals for making Elon the richest man in the world.
The current version of the Roadster 2.0 is not to sell cars, especially to sell cars to plebian commoners. The car will be sold to very wealthy aficionados like pieces of art.
The art in question is the “state of as” depicted in reality by the unsurpassable functionality actually envisioned and then produced by the Tesla engineers.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y is still the best selling car model in the whole world
They must’ve sold them all here because they are all over the place!..........
“Only a quarter million dollars. What a deal!”
You know what a quarter million dollars buys in my neighborhood here in Montana?
It looks like a Nissan.

The rest of Montana (minus GNP)?
It is worse than just ugly, although that is true that the Cyberpunk is the ugliest vehicle since the Pontiac Aztek, but it also comes with a myriad of problems and weaknesses. Try to reach into the bed. All the sharp corners. Terrible visibility. Too many flaws to list.
It has some amazing tech and features. Just put all that in a normal looking truck you can see out of with a normal bed you can reach into, with a normalish interior and controls, and lose the gimmicks and crap.
Musk is stubbornly just going down with the Cyberpunk ship because he doesn’t want to admit he was all wrong on this one. Cut your losses and build something people actually want, not a vanity show car toy.
Yes, there are pockets where show offs just had to have one just to have one and be the first on their block.
The Cybertruck has some amazing features and technology. It is just that it shouldn’t come with all of the warts it does, let alone looking like an ugly UFO. Just put all of the great features in a more normal looking truck with more normal operating controls, interior, bed, etc.
People around here paint them in all sorts of interesting ways........
[Tesla] hid an incredible Back to the Future Easter egg inside its new Roadster teaser—you have to do a little digital detective work to unlock it 🔥Start by flipping the image upside down. What looks like an abstract cluster of red and white glow instantly snaps into focus: the rear end of a hypercar, featuring a razor-thin taillight, aggressive aero, and four brilliant rocket-thruster plumes blazing beneath it. A 180-degree turn completely transforms the entire shot 💥
Now, bump the exposure and pull up the shadows. In the dark strip right between the red light bar and the thrusters, hidden text suddenly emerges:
“WHERE WE’RE GOING…” Every sci-fi fan knows the rest of Doc Brown’s iconic line: “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” Right before the DeLorean folds its wheels and takes flight 🚀
That’s where the two puzzle pieces click. The hidden text gives you the setup, and the rotated image delivers the punchline. Your brain automatically finishes the quote while your eyes take in a machine seemingly hovering on four jets. Even the execution is brilliant: the message reads right-side up, but the flying car only reveals itself when you turn the image on its head 🆒
Tesla stamped 10.01 on the image, but the message in the dark said it all: the era of the conventional supercar is officially dead. Mark your calendars for October 1st—the Roadster is prepping for liftoff 🔥
I figured "Ming" just had to pulling everybody's leg to see how many people he could get to tweak the image. I was skeptical, but figured "what the heck, give it a try." Sure enough. The message is right there!
About 1/3 of the last lot sold in my subdivision (initially platted in 1978).
It was sold for $700,000 two years ago.
They are building a $2,750,000 home currently.
I baited you and you took the bait, SA.
A quarter of a million dollars means nothing to a fair percentage of the population...
Of course I’ve only been working and accumulating wealth for 59 years (started mowing lawns when I was eight)...
BTW I’m on my 4th automobile in all those years and it’s turning 170,000 next month.
I’ll put my 1,098 sq. ft. home up against your doublewide anyday.
(spoiler alert — we had an 14 x 70 trailer while buying this property and while building our house SO DON’T YAKE THE BAIT)
