The pilots of the Amazon cargo plane that crashed in Miami, killing five people, were issued multiple warnings for flying “too low” to the ground — and acknowledged they were going “too fast” before they overshot the runway, officials said.
The National Transit Safety Board (NTSB) released transcripts from the Boeing 767’s cockpit voice recorder Wednesday that revealed one of the two pilots made a remark about the plane’s high rate of speed about 100 seconds before they hit the ground.
“The other pilot made additional comments regarding the aircraft’s excessive speed throughout the remainder of the recording. There was not a consistent verbal response to the comments about speed,” the NTSB said
The autopilot appears to have disconnected seconds later, according to the recording, and a “too low terrain” callout was issued electronically four times.
The recording then captured the plane landing on the runway and ”sounds similar to the aircraft departing the paved surface.”
Prime Air flight 7598 crashed on the runway at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. Sunday before plowing into multiple vehicles and bursting into flames, officials said.
Five people died in the incident. Five others were injured, including the pilots, identified Tuesday as Felipe Silva Molina, 37, and Joseph Carroll, 55.

Captain Steve had an excellent analysis the other day.
Came in too hot, too fast. Should have got the plane down on the first 1/3 of the runway.
Speed was too high, don’t know why. They may have been getting a tail wind from a micro burst in those dark clouds somewhere behind them.
It was the shortest runway available, but still adequate.
Pilot dove for the deck, flared the plane too high, floated down the runway, losing thousands of feet of available.
The touchdown wasnose gear first. Very bad technique. He was lucky that the plane didn’t start bouncing.
Both main mounts need to be on the runway for the spoilers to deploy to slow the plane down and make the brakes work better, but they went several thousand more feet down the runway with one of the main mounts still dangling in the air, so the spoilers never deployed.
As Captain Steve put it, a lot of holes in that Swiss cheese had to lineup for that accident to occur, and they all lined up.
I always assumed I would be going around and every landing was not a given.
The autopilot wanted nothing to do with that landing and left the cockpit.

Apparently, the name “Joseph” was quite popular in the middle east around 2000 years ago.
Yes… He does great work. Really gave me an understanding of the mechanics of why the accident occurred, even if we don’t know yet the underlying cause of it.

Do we know yet which pilot had operational control of the aircraft? I didn’t see that in the story, just that there were two pilots.

Bothe were AFAIK. One might have been Puerto Rican, seeing that was where the flight came from..........
It’s like this: We’re too hot ok I got it. We’re too high more flaps, there’s a tail wind ? I got three things going sideways time to go around.

If so, does that lessen that trauma for the victims and their families?
The pilot apparently got his type rating for the Boeing 767 in May. That would put him in low hours in that airframe.
Also, higher seniority pilots would be less likely flying on Labor Day weekend and more likely spending time with family and friends, putting the C Team in the cockpit.
Not to mention this outfit seems to be pretty sketchy. I doubt top talent wants to work for such.
Yes, I just looked...accounts say he was flying. It would not be uncommon for the younger pilot to be flying on a check flight or something like that.
At the point they touched down with a single main mount and had already burned off multiple thousands of feet on a short runway, exactly. One or both should have said “We have to go around”.
But they were determined to put that airplane on the ground for good. And they did.
You beat me to it. Not to make light of this tragedy, but when I saw the newsreader read those names on the news for the other crash, I couldn’t stop laughing for about an hour.
Just taking the opportunity to point out that they put the nose gear on the ground first.
That’s not normal ...
The pilot couldn't put the flaps any lower due to the high airspeed.
