Robin Morgan, Voice of Radical Feminism, Dies at 85
The New York Times ^ | 09/05/2026 | Rebecca Chace

Robin Morgan, a prolific feminist writer and radical activist who edited the landmark 1970 anthology “Sisterhood Is Powerful,” served as editor in chief of Ms. magazine for five years and helped organize one of the first protests of the Miss America pageant, died on Saturday in Manhattan. She was 85.

The death, in a hospital, was confirmed by her son, the musician Blake Morgan, who is her sole survivor.

From the front lines of a much-splintered feminist movement, Ms. Morgan gave voice to women as a poet, journalist, novelist, memoirist, agitator and iconoclast. She came of age in the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements, but along with other young women of the new left, she found those movements dominated by men, and, in particular, men who wanted to keep women as second-class citizens.

Morgan once said, :My white skin disgusts me. My passport disgust me. They are marks of an insufferable privlege bought at the price of others agony. If I could peel myself inside out I would be glad. If I could become part of the oppressed I would be free."

She only said that for street cred with her peeps. I know we shouldn't speak ill of the dead so I'll just say this. To steal a phrase from Mark Twain, "I read certain obituaries with great enthusiasm.

Two down this week and millions to go.

The phrase “Don’t speak ill of the dead” is an ancient aphorism originating from Chilon of Sparta (c. 6th century BC), later recorded in Latin as De mortuis nil nisi bonum (”Of the dead, say nothing but good”). The traditional rationale is that the deceased cannot defend themselves against criticism, making it socially inappropriate to slander them or erase their legacy unfairly.

However, modern perspectives increasingly challenge this rule as harmful advice that can silence grieving individuals, protect abusers, and enable revisionist history. Critics argue that while the phrase may offer temporary comfort to the bereaved, it often serves to erase harm and deny justice to victims, asserting that truth and accountability are more important than preserving a sanitized reputation.

That’s interesting because during themVietnam war women couldn’t be drafted and still can’t be drafted. Doesn’t sound like a second class to me

Since the phrase is not Biblical but from an ancient pagan society, go right ahead..............

She’s on my ‘p*ss on her grave’ list right before ‘She Who Shall Not be Named.’

Or Marxist conflict theory applied to gender relations. It’s meant to destroy. That’s all it does.
