The Sig P365X Macro is a nice upgrade to the original P365. The grip fits my hand perfectly. The comp reduces muzzle flip. The stock night sights are nice, but I think a green dot will fix my group sizes. My eyesight isn't what it was 25 years ago when I shot competitive targets with the 4" 686+ with hand-loaded 38SPL using Western Bullet 148 gr DEWC.

I really enjoy big bore revolvers e.g. Ruger SuperRedhawk 454 Casull with 7.5" barrel. I haven't had it out for many years. The past Tuesday, I took the P365X to the range and used target/practice grade 115 gr 9mm. I was dismayed at the end of the session to discover my left risk was sprained from a dinky 9mm. At almost 70 years of age, to snappy recoil is starting to have a consequence.

EDC is a challenge. At 145 lbs, I'm too skinny for most holster options. Too much money spent on holsters that fit the firearm perfectly, but don't work well with my frame.

My brother works for a medical imaging company. One day I was at his house and he got a call about a man that was at one of the offices for a MRI and when asked about metal objects replied that he had a bullet lodged in his chest that had not been removed. My brother said that if the bullet not iron then the MRI would not exert any force on it. They did the imaging with no issues.

I told my brother that I bet it was a black man and that the bullet was a 25 cal. He pulled up the file and the name sounded like a "black" name and he pulled up the image and measured the bullet diameter and it was .25. I looked and it was clearly a FMJ.

Someone asks me what gun I recommend and I tell them to go to the range, rent a dozen and shoot them all until you find the one that fits you.

I remember reading about an older guy who was awakened by an home invasion. He grabbed his 45 auto, but it jammed. The intruder killed both him and his wife.

That would not have happened had he had a good revolver.

Re overkill, revisited:

I believe one of the Arisaka rifles that the Japanese used was chambered in 6.5 mm; the other type was chambered in 7.7.

I think they up calibered it to 7.7 because the 6.5 wasn’t doing the job.

Our standard 7.62 x 63mm cartridge (30-06) was used across multiple different platforms; the M1917 Browning MG, the M1919 Browning, the BAR, the M1 Garand, the M1941 Johnson rifle and the Johnson LMG.

I think it was less of an overkill situation and more of an expediency situation.

And realistically… That cartridge had a lot of ass out at distance to knock a Target down… Much more than a .223 or .276 caliber would’ve had.

I know a lot of people like them, I just don’t have a lot of experience with them

Agreed. I have two, a black one and a desert khaki sand colored one. Lots of mags. Bang, pop, pow: very consistent.

I’m not a big fan of striker fired guns myself. I have a couple of XDS pistols in .45 I actually have up for sale. They’re good guns both accurate enough and absolutely reliable.

But when I’m walking out the door it’s the 229 that goes on my belt. Sig cut me a real nice deal on a Mitch Rosen OWB leather rig. I’m an old school guy so I love the classic hand tooled leather.

I have Kydex for it but that just ain’t got no soul.

I can’t imagine terrain too rough to carry the basics, and I’ve done some climbing.

It isn’t a ton and how is it that you can’t figure out what gun you want to carry on your own, how complex are you going to get to turn something pretty ordinary into something complicated?

I love the 30-06. I have several WWI and WWII guns. I have only shot the M1 Garand. That is a fun gun to shoot.

Re Kydex:

I have a Galco leather holster… no Kydex for me. I just prefer the leather.

My Garand is a 1944 manufactured Springfield. I absolutely love it.

The very first rifle I ever shot was an M1 Garand.
