A European professional basketball player was fatally shot and two people wounded when gunfire erupted Friday night at a packed Harlem basketball tournament, cops and witnesses said.
Kinu Rochford, a standout at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, was struck twice in the head at around 10:30 p.m. at the Kingdome Basketball Tournament in the Martin Luther King Jr. Towers on Lenox Avenue, police said.
Rochford, 35, who was playing in the tournament, was shot while watching between games, according to cops.
Witnesses said Rochford was struck the second time when he was already on the ground bleeding. Cops have not confirmed that.
Emergency responders gave CPR to Rochford, who lived in Crown Heights, and rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved, cops said.
The two injured — a 28-year-old man was shot in the shin and a 22-year-old woman was shot in the right forearm — were among the estimated 500 in the crowd watching the tournament between West 112th Street and West 115th Street.

“This is a day for the community and we’re probably not gonna have this no more,” he said. “We need more police (on) patrol.”
How is more police going to stop someone intent on point blank murder. This sound like he was targeted and targeted to send a very public message.
Freak would do better to use his real name, get a job and move his kids to a better neighborhood.

New York City’s murder rate had been trending downward, with a murder rate lower that Des Moines, Iowa or Salt Lake City, Utah.
It isn’t a proper basketball game without basketball Americans shooting a few people.
At least there are no white people to torment the neighborhood

I’ve read that as well. Could be true. Could be data manipulation.
I guy I know lives in a failed Democrat city near me. He says murders in his city have decreased, but only because the gang wars have ended. One drug gang won out.
He expects the numbers to trend upward again once another gang moves in.
It’s not like the old hit singles record competition where music stars hoped to be number 1 with a bullet for a top ten hit.

About 20 years ago, I spoke with a man who had left NYC for the western half of the country. He said that Harlem had been gentrified and that it was impossible for people of moderate means to afford to live there.
