In 1958, the world was introduced to an intergalactic horror movie about an alien gelatinous goo that consumes everything in its wake: The Blob. The '50s B-movie has gone down in history as a classic monster flick, that would later even spawn a gory remake in 1988. But, this terrifying UFO film isn't entirely fiction, and you may want to keep an eye on the sky after hearing the shocking true story that inspired The Blob.

written by Burt Bacharach, an early peak into his later musical genius--but then he was a student of Darius Milhaud after all.

He also studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger.

I guess that means when Al Gore's dire predictions about Glo-bull Warming and the melting polar ice caps come true, we'll all be in a heap of trouble.   /s

Sounds like the ‘black oil’ in the X-Files was an homage to The Blob, or they just stole the idea outright.

“Whale meat.”

“Again?”

Steve McQueen was 28 in that flick. Played the role of a high schooler.

I watch it once a year or so - to me the most interesting part is how a 27 year old McQueen managed to play a HS teen.

Of course that was back in the days when old men were the ‘suave’ young lady magnets....

Aneta Corseaut hated making The Blob. It was 20 hour work days.

Yes! But in ‘Beware! The Blob’ from 1972, Chester goes to the North Pole and brings back a piece and it eats half a California town.

The last I heard, it was trapped in an ice skating rink. Unfortunately, a news crew set a hot light too close to it and a bit of it ate the local sheriff.

The Blob scared me too but the Japanese spin-off that really freaked me out was the H-Man.

In some scenes, you can see Steve McQueen
with his hands behind his back and cigarette
smoke coming up behind him.

There was also a 1956 movie called X: The Unknown.
A, “Blob,” that grew due to radiation from an approaching comet.

I just looked that one up. Made by the original Godzilla folks.
Putting it on my list. Thank you.

I forgot to mention, it’s one of those cheesy mid-1950s monster movies that probably never should have been made. MST 3000 might have enjoyed it though
