I see no real reason to adopt the notion that the parties switched.

Comments welcome.

You are correct in your statements and in your conclusion.

I wondered why the Democrats celebrate an event that paints them in a negative light. A National Holiday commemorating the Republican defeat of the Democratic institution of slavery?

If they weren't stupid, we wouldn't have a chance against the never-ending tide of corruption, lies, and calumny.

I saw a history book for kids, and every time they mentioned a Republican who did something good in history, the book would say, “Remember, the parties switched.” The bias was obvious.

Abolish the phoney-baloney Ebonics “Juneteenth” and move the Federal holiday to Election Day.

Celebrate emancipation through electoral participation.

Leaders of the 1964 Civil Rights act Senate filibuster include:

Robert C. Byrd (D-WV): Delivered a single, 14-hour and 13-minute address to stall the bill’s progress

Richard Russell (D-GA): The primary leader of the Southern caucus who organized and directed the filibuster. The Russell Senate Office Building is named after him.

J. William Fulbright (D-AR) : Bill Clinton’s mentor

The parties didn’t switch. But the left has done a remarkable job of convincing a lot of people that they did.

They point to Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” to secure the Democrat-leaning South in his 1968 and 1972 campaigns as the key events of the “switch.”

Reinforced when the television networks switched the colors of the Democrat and Republican (from red to blue and vice-versa) in their coverage of Presidential and Senatorial campaigns in 2000.

Both superficial and false “reasons” for the “switch.”

“President Biden made June 19th a Federal Holiday on June 17, 2021.”

Signed into law right after every Democrat senator voted in favor and after every Republican senator voted in favor of the holiday.

Juneteenth. The HOLIDAY ABOUT NOTHING. Not one of the bass turds celebrating today had anything to do with this. None were slaves. None picked cotton. All the did was live of the American welfare system. Biden needs an ass whooping for inventing this crap holiday. IMHO.

Unfortunately what matters to most people is who talks about the past the most, not who actually did what in the past. The Dims give themselves fake credit today for being against past slavery by simply talking about it a lot today. Your post is 100% right that the Dims were pro-slavery, the Republicans were against slavery (created by the abolitionists), and the parties didn’t switch sides.

But again, little of that matters to most people today. What matters to most people today is who makes the most noise about it today.

The switching of parties had more to do with LBJ's War on Poverty/The Great Society. Who turns away free stuff even if it works to your detriment?

Thomas Sowell: “The black family, which had survived centuries of slavery and discrimination, began rapidly disintegrating in the liberal welfare state that subsidized unwed pregnancy and changed welfare from an emergency rescue to a way of life.”
