The driver of a bus involved in a deadly Virginia crash that killed five people doesn’t speak English, authorities said, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy who called it “unacceptable.”
Five people were killed and dozens were injured when the driver of an E&P Travel bus heading from New York to North Carolina failed to slow down near a work zone and slammed into several cars on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, the Virginia State Police said.
The crash happened around 2:35 a.m. Friday.
A 13-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, who were in the car ahead of the one the bus hit, died along with a 45-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman after their car caught fire.
They were all from Massachusetts.
A 25-year-old woman, who was in the car immediately in front of the bus, was also killed.
At least 44 others were taken to hospitals, including three in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the bus, identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, was injured in the crash.
Police say charges are pending.
Dong is a naturalized citizen originally from China who received his commercial driver’s license in New York two years ago.
“Unacceptable. This is exactly why we are holding states’ accountable, enforcing the rules of the road, and cracking down on drivers who can’t speak English,” Duffy wrote on X.
“If you can’t be properly trained, read our road signs, or communicate with law enforcement, you have no business driving a bus.”

I just checked a variety of Upstate NY enemedia outlets.
This story is nowhere to be found.
Note to the families of the victims...
If the perp had insurance, go after the company that insured him.
what I do know is he killed an entire family.....

The excerpt below is from a 2019 article describing the horrific 1994 accident involving....wait for it .....
Illegal licensed truck driver. The scum “republican” George Ryan ultimately went to prison for this. This Virginia accident deserves the same scrutiny as it has also claimed an entire family and another motorist. Still not on the news here in Chiraq area.
EXCERPT:
CHICAGO — Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the crash that killed six members of the Willis family.
Parents Scott and Janet Willis were the only survivors of the fiery van crash on I-94 in Wisconsin near the border in 1994. They lost the six youngest of their nine children.
Their van was struck by a chunk of metal from a truck.
The driver of that truck had received his license by bribing Secretary of State employees working for Gov. George Ryan, who at the time was Illinois secretary of state.
HORRIBLE

I was looking at booking a seat on a bus trip a whole back.
I called the owner of the biz sponsoring the trip with a few questions.
I did not like the answers I got.
I didn’t go.
People need to do their own due diligence.
...while back...
The other 55 states (Obama count) should arrest any drivers encountered with commercial licenses given out in NY and Cal. End this madness.
When will we see arrests of those who are issuing these licenses? Everyone involved should be held accountable and I guarantee they’ll take us serious.
I have to wonder if the driver fell a sleep at the wheel. It happened at 2:30 AM. Most construction zones give plenty of warning in advance to slow down and even be prepared to stop. In my neck of the woods, warnings go up about 5 miles out with rumble strips. That said it still doesn’t matter if the driver is distracted or ignores the warnings. We had a construction worker killed over night the over day when a driver ignored the warnings and was distracted when he dropped his cell phone.
Basic English proficiency is a requirement for the naturalization process. It is also required for the CDL.
Someone did something and people died.

Jing S. Dong sounds like he could be one of Santa’s elves.
The driver was likely just on his cell phone and not paying attention. Claiming he dropped it sounds like an attempt to lessen the charges and his guilt.
That is my guess as well. From a legal stand point, he should have kept his mouth shut until properly represented.
Three generations of a branch of my family were all killed in a firey head on crash near Plano, Texas several years ago when a Slavic truck driver crossed the median to kill them. Children, new baby, mother and grandmother.
I blame Amy Conehead Barrett. When in doubt, her. I think it takes four Justices to take a case?
I saw this on youtube but did not click on it. I should have know it was something like this. Let me guess...a Singh?
You don't have to be able to read English to become a naturized citizen?
Confession: I once drove in France for about 3 hours though I don't read/write/speak French. But I could read the exit signs for Caen ->.

I was doing dedicated Nash to Memphis and back, fall of 2019. All of that notice didn’t phase a semi driver from Texas. It had just happened, heard the cb chatter, was able to exit a mile before the wreck scene...

Two workers didn’t go home. Trooper survived. From that story...
“THP has identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 61-year-old Mervin Crigler of Garland, Texas. He was also injured in the crash.”
Crigler moved to St Louis, but was captured a few months later...
Anyone else wondering about that recent natural gas explosion in Dallas.
The one that took out the apartment building, killing, injuring a number of people.
The one that was caused by a contractor hitting a gas line.
I’ve been wondering if that contractor was proficient in English.
