First pig liver and kidneys transplanted into a person — could ease organ shortages

Organs from genetically modified pigs are being used in trials in China and the US.

A 53-year-old clinically dead man has become the first person to receive two kidneys and a whole liver from a genetically modified pig. The man’s organ function was sustained for almost five days with consent from his family, and there were no signs that the organs were being rejected in the first 24 hours, according to a study published in Med today1.

Most procedures in which a pig organ is transplanted into a person — known as xenotransplantation — involve only a single organ. A small number of people have received pig organs, including hearts, kidneys, partial livers and lungs, and clinical trials in living people are under way in the United States and China. Until now, only parts of a pig liver have been transplanted into a person, says Xuyong Sun, a clinician scientist who led the latest procedure at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University in Nanning, China.

Transplanting pig kidneys and a liver in the same procedure is also unique, says Leonardo Riella, a physician scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, who in 2024 led the team that first transplanted a pig kidney into a living person. Transferring multiple organs is more complex than moving one; procedures take longer, increasing the risk of complications, and people who need multiple transplants are often more seriously ill, he adds.

The study shows that multi-organ xenotransplants are possible, says Wayne Hawthorne, a surgeon and transplant researcher at the University of Sydney in Australia.

Multi-organ transplants are already performed with human organs, but there is a shortage of donor organs, which is why research teams are investigating the use of pig kidneys.

My family is more than capable of making that decision when I’m on my way out. In fact, we did give permission to donate certain organs when my parents passed. We just wanted to make sure that the docs did what they should have instead of throwing in the towel early.

You can trust doctors all YOU want.

I DO NOT.

And I feel that my distrust is well-earned after CoVid BS.

They already use pig parts for heart valves replacements here in the US. A side effect is you get queasy at barbecues.

There is reason to believe that the primate genus and the swine genus are much more closely related genetically than has previously explained. Of all the animals taken into domestication, the pig more nearly resembles human beings than anything else. Similar physical size, similar digestive systems (pigs are, like humans, omnivores, consuming plant source ad animal source diets),and though the pig lives at what for a human being would be a fever pitch level, similar life arcs from conception, birth, maturation and ageing, the pig having a vastly shortened life span in comparison to humans.

What do the genetically modified pigs look like? This could be disturbing.

“In fact, we did give permission to donate certain organs when my parents passed.”

Then, why do you want to do away with organ donations?

Organ donation cards signed by unsuspecting people, that’s what I want to do away with.

It’s big business, and there are lots of people without ethics.

Surely you know this. You can’t be that naive.

Here’s a real life example.

My primary care physician’s nurse had a brother who signed up as an organ donor when renewing his driver’s license. He was in an accident, where they very, very briefly put him on life support.

Instead of trying to do ANYTHING AT ALL to continue helping him, the very MINUTE that they discovered he had signed an organ donation card, they stopped trying to continue to work on him. Prior to the accident, he was young and healthy, I believe she told me he was 28.

She and the rest of the family were COMPLETELY DEVASTATED that they lost their brother, and the parents, their son under these circumstances.

This is UNETHICAL.

People are unaware that the doctors will not work to help you get over your situation as soon as they find that donor card. They have no idea that their own lives will be totally sacrificed for someone willing to pay BIG MONEY for those organs. People are being duped.

It’s not as innocent as you’re making it out to be.

I don’t think so.

I believe everything she told me.

She understood that her brother might not have come back, and maybe not fully recuperate. But the family didn’t expect that they would quickly carve him up and remove his organs, and then pull the machines off of him. They never gave him or them any option. He had signed the permission on his driver’s license. Go get as many of those organs as you can!! Big BIG money!!

This BS is way too common. And people DON’T KNOW HOW IT WORKS!!

“Organs from genetically modified pigs are being used in trials in China and the US.” Did you know pigs are as smart as dogs? It’s true, I knew this fellow in El Capitan who trained his pig to bark at strangers.

I can personally attest to that, I had my aortic valve replaced about two years ago with a pig tissue valve, sometimes they use cow tissue as well.

I ate a couple of ribs over Memorial Day recently, no issues to report about digesting them.
