When asked about the look, which was custom-made by designer Thom Browne, Johnson said it was in part inspired by Polynesian culture, in which the “most masculine men” wear skirts. I was floor manager at a bar in Calgary in the late 80s, and Dwayne was working the front door. He whined about football and trying to make the cut etc and often would come find me to escort the unruly types out because of my abilities.
