WHEN Was the Last Time You Wrote a Regular Check?
SELF | May 2, 2026 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 05/02/2026 11:31:04 AM PDT by PJ-Comix

It struck me earlier today that I have NOT written a regular check in years. Yes, I have written a few bank checks but as far as personal checks I can't think of any that I have written any in at least 5 and more likely 10 or more years. At one time in my life and in the lives of many others, writing checks were a frequent activity. However, after the onset of the Internet and doing transactions over the web my check writing activities dwindled further and further until it has reached ZERO except for the few times I needed to write bank checks for the transferal of larger than normal funds.

So WHEN was the last time you wrote a regular check? And are there people here who still write checks frequently? I can't even remember the last time I wrote a regular check and it could have been as long ago as 20 or 25 years.

I still write some checks. Did it on line for years till the companies decided to have everyone change their passwords.
Can’t get back in to pay so back to checks.

It has been too many years to remember. Good thing, too, as my neuropathy has made writing almost illegible.

I knew there would be lots of luddites here who still wrote checks.

Yes, life in the previous century was nice, but denying the conveniences of realities of normal technology is kinda weird.

I still write two or three checks a months. Sometimes more Most of my accounts are are paid by either credit card (which I pay off each month) or direct deduction from my checking account. Not every thing is set ups so they can be paid that way, so I have to write a check.

I recall those and referred to that “golf ball” as the dancing ball. A good typist could really make that little ball dance.

You got me curious about ribbon cartridges, and yes, they still sell them.

I also discovered Royal still makes new typewriters, both manual and electric. I recall using Royals as a kid. I could do 60 words a minute with a manual typewriter. My “muscle memory” learned on a manual typewriter still gives me fits on a computer keyboard, for I make too many mistakes pressing the wrong keys to two at a time.

I used to avg at least one check every day for years and years. Now, not often at all. But I’m still paying out the nose all the time.

My mom gave me a box of the balls with different script
It is fun to change them around

I still write personal checks for about 5 monthly bills. Have you seen the price of stamps lately? May end up switching what I can.
