MS NOW host Reverend Al Sharpton said the United States' upcoming 250th anniversary is not a "celebration" for Black people and that it's "crazy" to expect them to celebrate it.
"They're going to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country July 4th, but that's not our celebration," Sharpton said at the National Action Network’s 35th Anniversary National Convention on Wednesday.
He continued, "We were slaves then, and they celebrate signing the Declaration of Independence 1776. We were not even emancipated until 1863. So I don't know what everybody getting ready for a celebration [for]. You know that it seems crazy for me to have on the birthday hat at your birthday party. That ain't my party."
Sharpton suggested that he should hold a separate rally in Philadelphia and expressed concern that young citizens were not aware of Black people's "background" thanks to President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., attempting to remove woke aspects in education.
"When White kids hear us talking about reparations or affirmative action, they think it's an attack because they don't know what their granddaddy did to us," Sharpton said.
Sharpton has been a critic of removing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) from businesses and schools, threatening boycotts against businesses that pulled back DEI initiatives since Trump's second term began.
He also accused DeSantis of trying to "erase Black history" after his administration demanded revisions to an AP African American studies course in 2023.
Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who spoke with Sharpton earlier in the convention, also emphasized the importance of remembering the nation's history with slavery, advocating for the formation of a "Department of Reconciliation" to address it.

For once I agree with Sharpton. His proposal would be better for everyone. They can play their black national anthem and when they start shooting white people won’t get caught in the crossfire.
Let me correct that for you. Sharpton has devoted his life the hustling cash for Al Sharpton. If he thought he could make more cash by recruiting for the KKK, he would do that instead. It’s all about the money for Rev Al.

I have two ancestors that I am NOT proud of...One worked for Columbus (freed from the dungeon to sail off the Earth) and Jefferson Davis, a Great, great (repeat until factual) grandfather of mine.
On the other hand my Grandfather was a judge for 37 years in Livingston, MT and the KKK burned a cross in his yard — they wanted him to find a Blackman guilty of murder (a bench trial, not jury trial as requested by the accused) on a Sunday night (my mother was eight years old and woke up scared because she thought the neighbors house was on fire) only to see 50+ clowns in white robes and hats threatening my Grandfather.
He stood his ground and found the man innocent.
About 6 months later one of those pigs was arrested for the murder and my GF oversaw the trial (by jury) and he sentenced him to death by hanging in the public square...
Maybe my family is making progress after many centuries...I despise Sharption!

When Al Sharpton gets his way, Independence Hall will be removed from the National Record, and cities will sell and plow those properties to state their hatred of what was great to install their new heroes.
That means June 19, “National Independence Day,” will officially have that name and July 4 will be purged by Democrat edict.

Sharpton has done well for himself as a demagogue and rabble-rouser without contributing anything of value to the country--but instead getting people killed by his irresponsible rhetoric. But the Democrats and the media think he must be pandered to.
When slavery still existed, many slaveholders recognized that it was wrong but didn't know how to extricate themselves from it, and worried that the country could never have the two races living side by side in equality. Sharpton's goal is to show that their worries were justified.
I remember reading and seeing a youtube video about a black women dentist who moved to Africa (Ghana if memory serves me correctly!) to give back to the motherland. She set up a practice and it quickly collapsed. Her employees robbed her blind. If you employed a Ghanaian what the practice\office had was theirs too so they felt free to take it! Also it was the employee’s family’s right to take it. You fire them over it, total lack of understanding as to why they were fired. Another problem, the showing up on time for an appointment didn’t exist. Whenever they came to the office they demanded immediate treatment. Time management of patient flow was impossible. Paying for services another poorly understood concept.
The American dogood dentist after 2 years (I think!) gave up and returned to the US.
