Iran’s elite navy chief responsible for closing Strait of Hormuz killed in airstrike: reports
NY Post ^ | 3/26/26 | Chris Bradford

An elite Iranian navy chief who gave the green light to close the Strait of Hormuz has been killed in an airstrike on Thursday, according to a report.

Alireza Tangsiri, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Navy commander, was eliminated in a strike on the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, located on the Strait, an Israeli official told the Jerusalem Post.

Neither the Israeli Defense Forces nor the Iranian military has commented on the strike.

Tangsiri’s reported death comes after the assassinations of IRGC spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini, and the regime’s de-facto leader Ali Larijani, and its anti-protest enforcer Gholamreza Soleimani.

Tangsiri reportedly ordered the Strait of Hormuz – a vital waterway that oversees the shipment of 20 percent of the world’s oil supply – to be shut down and it has effectively remained closed since the start of Operation Epic Fury on Feb. 28.

Oil price volatility over the past four weeks has prompted calls from politicians and energy executives to reopen the Strait. Earlier this week, the price of Brent crude oil was reported to be $100 per barrel.

Tehran has threatened even more disruption, warning it could take control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait if US forces invade Kharg Island – which is one-third the size of Manhattan and controls 90% of Iranian crude oil exports.

In my second year as a wet-behind-the-ears Ensign in the U.S. Navy, we were given the mission of making a "port of call" at the naval port in Bandar Abbas, Iran.

Bandar Abbas is directly above the strategic choke point, the Strait of Hormuz.  My ship was the USS Turner Joy, and we sailed with a small flotilla of ships from the Western Pacific -- quite a voyage: almost half way around the world.

But to cut the boredom, we traveled through Singapore and crossed the Equator... then proceeding to celebrate the famous Crossing the Line ceremony where the veteran "shellbacks" are permitted to freely harass and humiliate the "pollywogs", sailors who had never crossed the Equator before.  Lots of fun... (but to be explained at another time).

Upon sailing into the Gulf of Oman, we reached the Strait of Hormuz around midnight.  And it was a highly treacherous passage because there were so many commercial ships passing through the Strait and navigating in the darkness raised the pucker factor

Indeed, our skipper was wise to be up and about on the bridge.  I distinctly remember him with his binoculars how one of the ships in our flotilla narrowly escaped colliding with another ship!

He told us excitedly, "Their radar blips merged!"

Bandar Abbas was definitely NOT a place to write home about.  There was simply nothing to do there.  No movie houses, restaurants.  Just a few tented areas you could order a cup of very strong coffee.  I recall an Australian sailor warning us, "Aye mate, that Bandar Abbas is the bloody &%$# of the world."

Now remember, this was when the Persians were friendly to Americans.  The Shah ruled the country, and we were allies.

Fortunately there was one highly memorable event.  All the officers of the American ships were invited to an outdoor party, hosted by the officers of the Iranian navy. And everybody was wearing their "dress white" uniforms.

Now the live musical entertainment at that party was maybe the finest I've ever experienced.  A woman was dancing and singing music using the Tahrir or Persian yodeling technique which gave it a kind out-of-this-world beauty and thrill.

I browsed Youtube for an hour and finally found a a girl whose Tahrir voice brings me back in time to that special experience.  So the Persians have a beautiful culture that can hopefully be restored once the terrorist forces are utterly destroyed.

I grew up overseas, have traveled a good part of the world, have a post-graduate degree, have interacted with people (especially Spanish-speakers) from all over the world, dated a Japanese woman for a year, dated a Chinese woman for a year and finally married a Mexican and have been married to her ever since. I too, am old.

Standing up for what is right in a world of evil has never been a problem for me and I have done so unapologetically. Often, the discussion is logical and not always Biblical. The God of the Bible raises up nations and he brings them down, when HE is ready (Daniel 5).

I don't know who was flaunting his/her Christianity that prompted your comment, but muslims lately have been flauting their islamism to an extreme and also unapologetically, which includes killing the infidel whenver they get the opportunity (the Koran teaches them to do this as we here all know by now).

Sometimes in leadership, one has to do things that are not always popular. The Bible, which you indicate you believe, has the following passage in it in the book of Ecclesiastes.

Eccesiastes 3:1,3, 8 - 1. There is an appointed time for everything.. And there is a time for every matter under heaven.

SNIP

3. A time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build up.

SNIP

8. A time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

It looks like right now that it has become a time for war and a time to kill. This "islam" must be stopped because it is the face of evil, pure and simple. Sharia law can NOT be allowed to be established in this nation no matter what it takes to get it stopped. Christianity and islam (sharia) can not cooexist. Such is impossible. Americans must repent and turn back to God and Christians need to publicly be calling for that for the salvation of this nation (see England for actual example of what can happen). If you call that "wearing it on your sleeve", so be it. muslims wear islam (sharia) on their sleeves every day they live and do so unapologetically.

Generally, you are correct, we are not to live as Pharisees going around browbeating people about the Bible or God. In Asia, where I grew up, around 1962-3, muslims ALMOST killed my dad. They were looking for a vehicle traveling on a particular road to attack and selected a vehicle that was traveling about 2 miles ahead of his vehicle. They killed everyone in that vehicle and fled, coming back by my dad's vehicle at a high rate of speed. When he and his group reached the wrecked/shot up vehicle, they realized how close they came. I will NEVER forget that.

This problem with islam calls for leadership to investigate/research what these people teach and to STOP it from coming here, period. islam can NOT be allowed to be even taught in this country is MY point of view BECAUSE of the insuing death and destruction that will follow. In all deference to your point of view, I stand my ground on that point.

Famous quotes by Alireza Tangsiri:

“ If the United States were ‘to clash with us, we would chase them even to the Gulf of Mexico”

“ The United States had ‘come to realize the Islamic Republic’s superiority at sea!”

“We will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed, and we will deliver the harshest blows to the invading enemy.” – A statement by Tangsiri in response to Supreme Leader Khamenei Jr., as reported by Open Source Intel on March 12, 2026.

Remember these when weighing all the other bombastic threats by these idiots.

I worked with a Muslim Somali for a shipping company. He was very energetic but did not put one neuron of care for the packages or their routings into his work. He spoke frequently of his yearning for the Hajj, wanting to complete it, and of changing his name to “Hajj”.

I enjoyed your telling of that tale-and yes, though I have never been through the Strait of Hormuz myself, it is clear that it is narrow, shallow, and extremely busy.

Indeed, I can hardly imagine, even in peacetime, that the Captain would not ensure he was on the bridge to perform that transit.

I have been through the Strait of Gibraltar more than a few times, and that is only 9 miles wide at its narrowest point. When I have been on deck during the day as we made the transit, it was like a highway. All the ships lined up going into the Mediterranean on one side, all the ships leaving lined up on the other side, as if you were traveling down a busy roadway full of two way traffic (though traffic was much further apart!)

I am pretty sure the Captain (or at least, a good one) would be on the bridge for those events.

I suppose most all of them didn’t know I was a very Christian man. Y’all don’t need to wear your faith on your sleeve and flaunt it. Share it when it is requested. Keep it private otherwise.

Pertaining to our country, internally, I fully agree.
I’d eliminate everyone that is a threat to Americans,
regardless of religion,creed, or race.
Externally, We have a military to protect our country, our people, and our interests, we should use it as necessary.

Realistically, eliminating all Moslems is not practical.
I’d love to render them all impotent, unable to attack our interests or our people, either physically or economically.
But we just aren’t that advanced to be able to do that,
just yet. It will happen though.

Yes, a good caution, sunkenciv.

Google AI explains the Crossing the Line ceremony much better than I could.  There are rules to the hazing and sailors can opt out.

Thanks, rlmorel. You are absolutely correct. I gave the perspective of a wet-behind-the-ears Ensign :-)

The darkness of the night and lack of education of the traffic is what fools the novice into thinking it's not so difficult.

I imagine these days that skippers are trained in simulation environments so they are better prepared for navigating these hazardous choke points.

Been following this channel for about 3 years, an unusual effort to make money via YouTube donations from the West, the government did interfere with it, but he came back, but somehow the war is starting to be mentioned.I have no idea how he gets his footage out of the country, must use Starlink.....

His fist broadcasts 3 years ago showed just his wife and kids living a nomadic life in caves, and he returned from army service to rejoin his family. Then he build a castle on tribal lands, became famous, Iranian police shut his Youtube channel down for a time and then allowed him back, some kind of deal was made.He lives about 100 kilometers south of Ishfahan up over a mountain pass.

Interesting following him over the last few years. I learned a lot about Iran’s culture. I have not communicated with him or made any comment on his video channel.Just watching.

I figure there is a chance he ( Hassan) might be forced to send coded messages to sleepers in the West. That’s likely why the Iranian Gov leaves him on, allowing weekly uploads from Iran onto Youtube.

Great to see these videos, Candor7.

The Iranians are a smart people, but they enabled their country to be taken over by a vicious mob.

America was headed in that direction under Biden and his autopen. Thank God we have President Trump.  The world, too, is appreciative.  And that will become very evident in the next few months.

Check out the TIR Youtube channel. Very strange.( Been following it for about 3 years ....)

https://www.youtube.com/@TIR78

Arman, and Asna are chuldren of Hassan and Zulikha Hosenpour

The question whichi remains unanswered is how do they get their videos OUT of Iran beyond the usual censorship of the Islamofascst Irabian Regime, and to what end is such an exception made to the usual censorship?

Remember that international news services cannot get any footage out of Iran, but this channel is regularly updated weekly.I have been trying to figure it out for some time.
