President Trump said Sunday that increasing prices of oil are “a very small price to pay” for “safety and peace” amid the U.S. conflict with Iran.
“Short term oil prices, which will drop rapidly when the destruction of the Iran nuclear threat is over, is a very small price to pay for U.S.A., and World, Safety and Peace,” Trump said in a Sunday evening Truth Social post.
“ONLY FOOLS WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY!” he added.
The U.S. conflict in Iran caused a recent surge in domestic oil and gas prices, with the U.S. national average for a gallon of regular gasoline going up by 14 percent between last week and Saturday, per data from AAA.
Iran has effectively closed off the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow maritime passageway that ushers roughly 20 percent of global oil supply from the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean and beyond.
Trump is mindful of economic concerns, as voters have consistently ranked affordability near the top of issues they face ahead of the midterms. The Treasury Department has said they will soon release plans to mitigate the rising energy costs.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil was more than $91 a barrel as of 4 p.m. EST Friday, rising $10 on that day. Brent crude — the international benchmark — rose $7 to $92 during the same time period.

It’s like I said in another tread taking out these mullahs is like trying to cut off the head of the Lernaean Hydra.
Time to endure a little deprivation for the future of your country cry baby. Deal with it.
I find it hard to believe that the Middle East, aka “crazy town” is going to start acting “right” now. They’ve been effed up for thousands of years but now, now they are going to become little English Lords and Ladies. The odds of that happening are exactly zero out of everything.
Trump was saying the U.S. should stop Iran's nuclear program in 1980.
I don’t think the government will be removed by a majority vote in the IRGC and replaced by sane muslims.
They don't have long-range ballistic missiles, let alone nuclear ones.
Very few are going to buy an unnecessary foreign war like this is with $5 gasoline and Biden-era inflation levels or dead American coming back in body bags.
And, never mind, Netanyahu been spewing the same nonsense about Iran being close to getting nuclear weapons longer than Al Gore has been claiming global warming was going to destroy the planet.
There have been a number of surveys on the current religious makeup of Iran. Those using telephone and face-to-face survey modes show a very high percentage of Iranian identifying as Muslim—99.98% in the official 2011 Iranian government census, whose numbers were used by the CIA World Factbook, and 96.6% in the World Values Survey in 2020. The CIA World Factbook estimated that in 2020 98.5% of the population adhered to Islam. Online social media-based surveys conducted by GAMAAN, which use chain referrals to self-select participants, reported that Shia Muslims constituted 32.2% of Iranians in 2020, 56% in February 2022, 37.5% in December 2022, and 37.9% in July 2023. The U.S. News & World Report placed Iran 3rd on the ranking of the most religious nations in 2024.
The feigned outrage over higher oil prices is analogous to the media screaming to Roosevelt that he should stop WWII because of rationing.
It’s definitely worth every penny. I would gladly pay Ten-dollars a gallon and just drive less. This won’t last long and the prices will be lower than before once the 47 year long, perpetual risk to oil shipments has been ended forever.
Okay, so we will be coming up on one year soon and then two years after that. Broken things can always be fixed when there is a will to do so. I am glad that we boult some time last June, now we are working on the will part.
Oh please! Do debate it, won't you? Why did Iran need hundreds of kilos of 60% enriched uranium while rapidly trying to enrich much, much more. There must be a good reason besides "death to America." Please tell us what it might be. Power reactors only need very low levels of enrichment and medical uses are only 20% at most. Why is Iran so desperate to enrich to 60% and beyond?
A month or so of high gas prices is a tiny price to pay that objective.
There is absolutely no reason for the rapid spike in gasoline prices so soon after the Iran attacks other than speculation of an extended shut down in the Gulf .
If the US/Israeli air attacks succeed withing the next two weeks gas prices will calm down as fast as they have spiked.
The right move is to double down on the targeting of Iranian IRGC weapons stockpiles and terror/repression infrastructure . The loss of Iranian drone production is going to hit Russia's ability to hit targets in Ukraine which could help make Russia a bit more flexible on ending the war in Ukraine
I think that it really is hard to understate just how bad the Iranian Islamic Republic is . They are major partners in a lot of the very bad things we see happening around the world.
President Trump is doing the right thing and he has already succeeded in destroying most of the 60 years of Iranian investment in building a nuclear capable , ballistic missile and drone armed terrorist state. The IRGC is ceasing to be an external threat to the Middle East and the rest of the world
In a couple of weeks of air attacks the Iranian Islamic State leadership and repression apparatus will be killed off to the point where they will no longer be an internal threat to the Iranian people.
It's time for the US and Israel to double down and and go all out to take down the Islamic Republic because time is not on our side and I am stunned at the number of people who do not approve of finally bringing down the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Oddly, the cost of producing oil isn’t going up. The US is a net producer once again too. We are not dependent on foreign oil.
You of course realize that obliteration doesn’t mean obliteration. Alternate facts come into play. There will be many here who will circle the wagons.
Do you want to restate this now that you were shown the facts? I'm waiting...
$10 per gallon gas should put a crimp in the Mexican’s landscaping businesses here in the Southeast...
Moreover, the prices of eggs have, and continue to go down with a positive effect on inflation.
He’s absolutely correct. Iran is causing this by threatening shipping through the Straits of Hormuz. Iran only ships about 85,000 barrels a day, all on the black market, mostly to China and a couple other countries. Global oil usage is about 100,000,000 barrels a day. Iran is a bit player.
As soon as the Straits get cleared up, likely in the next day or so, ships will move and oil will go down again.
Why did Iran carved out nuclear infrastructure deep under a mountain? Why Iran does not cooperate with IAEA?
I grew up in a Muslim neighbor hood in India. My best childhood friends were our neighbor Muslim kids my age. I know these people with first hand knowledge. I have read about how many innocent Hindu’s were murdered during partition of India into 2 separate countries, Pakistan & India. Pakistan still sends Islamic terrorists inside India.
When the islamists in Iran say death to America, do not ignore it. They just need an opportunity.
“Once again”? We’ve been a net producer since 2011.
