Almost Lost: The Marx Brothers "Animal Crackers." [18:06]

Each year, based on age and law and international convention, old copyrights expire and once protected works fall into the public domain. Animal Crackers, the second major motion picture to feature the Marx brothers, disappeared for nearly a quarter of a century, and parts of it were nearly forgotten for 86 years, and today it belongs to the public.

Indeed.

Same with the contract scene and the opera scene.

It’s a Gestalt! 😁

I find the action between the first (Pre-Hayes?) movies and the later ones hilarious. Drinks, Drinks, Drinks across to the last one where you wonder how they are going to Adventure with a kid at home.

And the music is crazy good thanks to Chico and Harpo.

I would love a harp in the house, but we’re outa room for more music instruments.

So many of these people who set us up with great cultural pieces were from Russia. Displaced. Eastern European Jews who were displaced. They loved America They had no money and spent long hours bored or playing in the streets with kids. They all played musical instruments.

Harpo was very good. Then Chico would pick up the same tune on the piano. Then Groucho

In ‘Horsefeathers’ Harpo plays ‘everyone says I love you’. Then Chico plays it on piano to some blonde makes up cheesy word. Then Groucho does it on the ukelele makes up cynical words Zeppo had a great voice.

They were truly gifted. Harpo was an Eddie Van Halen. Or EVH was a Harpo.

So here, this is the one...

I started writing a reply and its turned into quite an unnecessarily long book before I realized that you probably wouldnt actually read it and would think its rude anyway.

Explaining that women tend to use relational aggression and many revel in it isnt really the flex you seem to think it is nor where this conversation should be going.

I could ramble about this for a while but Im sure it would likely be viewed as a personal attack rather than what was really intended.

Bullish is correct in that statement even if his tastes in movies were the kind to enrage either one of us.

The point being that though I agree with you and not Bullish regarding the Marx Brothers, I absolutely can not stand the thin man movies. They really arent comedy, they try to be some kind of romance mystery as much as anything else.

I hope that your “enjoyment” isnt destroyed because I think those movies are at best a waste of time.

Gone with the Wind was trash but for various reasons I liked King Kong.

I really dont care if someone gets upset that I dont like Casablanca, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was better.

Epic truly is a word for The Ten Commandments, West Side Story is a ridiculous social justice ripoff of Romeo and Juliet.

Now that Ive decreed these things first you must agree because since I said it first Im right and your opinion doesnt count. If you dont agree then Im going to have all the other little girls make fun of your shoes.

We’re enjoying a nice Marx brothers discussion here

None of their movies are offensive. They do not sway political decisions. They done resort to scatogical humor

Anything disliked about them is a personal cultural decision

Everyone is entitled to a personal opinion. I am entitled to not bother with people who choose to voice opinions on culture

I do not expect, demand nor care if people don’t see humor in something I enjoy
Therefore, I don’t push it. And I do not take any cultural pushing.

I would t dream of reading this

The characters in The Thin Man series were Nick and Nora Charles. A wonderful set of books and movies.
