I often look at not just the replies, but the FReepers who post them.
I usually recognize 90% of their names. Like you for instance. You’re an active regular.
I think Sunken civ has some algorithm to group threads by subject. I wonder if he or someone else could give a numerical breakdown and names of all FReepers who post in one month in order to see a realistic average of users.

I’m devastated.

Investors want a return on their investment. FR would never produce a return, that’s not how it’s set up to operate. It runs on donations, gifts that are freely given without expectation of monetary return.
We support FR with our donations because for us, the “return“ is the non-monetary value of the site for our use.
With all due respect to your idea, trying to run this for investors would require that the site make money. It would destroy FR. Just consider the number of threads complaining about this feature or that feature that would “modernize” the site. The resounding response is that we like it just the way it is.
And see, my problem is I recognize just a few names, usually the ones who reply to me as they typically don’t like my posts. But I respond to a lot of things but often I don’t even think about who I am replying to, I post more because of the specific comment or arrticle, not a specific person. So I really don’t have a good feel for how many people really are on here. And when you are around on this place as long as I have been and still see lots and lots of articles posted everyday, it feels like it always has been, for me, anyways.

Probably 30 to 40% actually contribute.
It could just be Google crawling the Site checking up on and logging you.....
I didn’t get the impression that the investors were looking to monetize it as much as update it .
Hopefully keeping its elegant front end.
