The New Mexico Environment Department on Friday published a “Climate Action Plan” that contains more than three dozen steps to meet Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
NMED officials collaborated with their counterparts at the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department to craft the plan, which they describe as a roadmap to a carbon-neutral future for the state. Officials said the plan protects energy industry jobs for New Mexicans while also cutting emissions and tending to the state’s finite natural resources.
“The New Mexico Climate Action Plan is more than a set of goals — it is an actionable roadmap to a resilient, energy-independent and prosperous future for every New Mexican,” NMED Secretary James Kenney said in a statement. “We are confronting climate change head-on while building a thriving clean energy workforce and creating long-term economic opportunities, especially for communities historically overburdened by pollution.”
The plan and existing policies together put the state on track to nearly cut emissions in half by 2030 when compared to levels from 2005, according to NMED. Officials expect an 82% reduction in emissions by 2050. In a news release, the department said these measures will prevent $294 billion in health care costs, property damage and other pollution-related impacts.
The new plan lists 45 steps to curb greenhouse gas emissions, including:

They will have net-zero money by 2050.
LOL!!! Idiots...
True. Income from oil and gas leases on state land goes to childhood education (which is failing due to control by the very liberal teacher’s unions and woke/DEI teaching). Overall, state programs including childcare are funded by the O&G industry which provides 35-40 percent of all state revenues. The idiots in Santa Fe (the three branches of state government) absolutely despise the oil and gas industry and each year come up with more ways to hamstring them.
But they absolutely love the money they provide for state coffers. It’s absurd that the revenues exceed state budgets by several billions but the libs dream up more ways to spend it by increasing even more state government and give aways. Why work, when government will provide all your needs? But the cracks are beginning to appear. Thanks to Trump, crude prices are dropping which reduces revenue. To continue to pay for the extravagant programs (including the green newscam), they are looking to raise taxes on gasoline for example and higher fees on business.
Being a blue sanctuary state, crime in major cities is out of control with drugs and illegals a problem; in particular teen criminals receive the proverbial revolving door treatment. Health care, even as heavily subsidized as it is, is a problem especially in rural areas. The main reason is the trial lawyers control the legislative committees and malpractice lawsuits have no cap. Malpractice insurance for doctors is out of reach for many and the good ones retire or leave the state.
Yes, everyone down here goes to Lubbock or Midland/Odessa for health care and shopping. Ninety minute to two-hour drive compared to four to five hours to ABQ/Santa Fe.
NM, in my youth, used to be a great place to live with great jobs and great education. Now they are rushing toward the bottom so fast due to democrat takeover that their education system is worse than Arkansas and Mississippi!

***OTOH, the injuns can drill for all the oil and gas they want, build all the refineries they want,***
That was the plan for the Navajos fifty years ago to improve Navajo life, but then the American Indian Movement(AIM) hit Farmington and Shiprock over the Fairchild Plant closing and it was all shut down. Still a hot, DRY reservation. I was there.
