The number of flu cases across the country is on the rise, following a global trend that is now reaching the U.S., say health care professionals.
Britain, Australia and Japan have already reported spikes, in what has turned out to be an early flu season, according to The New York Times.
Some of the areas seeing the biggest spikes so far include New York City, Denver and New Orleans, according to The Times and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s tracker.
The dominant strain of the flu virus circulating this season is H3N2 subclade K – a variant of the common H3N2 strain that appears to have a characteristic that enables the virus to spread more widely.
Flu shots this season were not specifically created to prevent people from contracting that strain but are still being recommended by some health care providers.

The flud shot is not effective. You would think healthcare professionals would admit to that and be truthful with the data. Instead....they still recommend the worthless shot.
I’m not wearing a mask!
I will believe that there is a “super” variant about the same time that the Kalifornia “Super” Train is a reality.
I had the flu once in my life, decades and decades ago. Never had a flu shot. Never will.
I’m just getting over a bug of some sort. Thanks to Zicam nasal spray, zinc tablets and Stoli shots with Emergen-C chasers kept it in check.
“...and outdated spam cans.”
You mean spam expires? (!)
Nicotine patches and Elderberry protect against Covid, wonder if they’ll protect from the flu, too.
Hubby is down with some flu since Friday. it’s not terrible - mostly congestion, cough and fever. He started Tamiflu today, plus he’s been taking all the usual things we do for illness -Vit D, C, zinc, airborne, elderberry.
I’m taking all the same plus I will probably take Tamiflu, because I am starting to feel the congestion today.
unless you have issues with kidney stones.
And quercertin because I always take it with zinc
If this variant is what DH has, it isn’t terrible. It’s like a bad cold with a fever.
But I will say, the drive-thru doc next door to my hubby’s work has has long lines of patients all day, every day for the past week.
Respect for the Stoli
If I catch the flue, I’m going to visit diagonally.
Oh no! “Super Flu” variant.
Well, I am blessed with a match for it: an “Intelligently Designed Immune System”!
It was a Gift from Someone Who loves me very much!
We’re already in late December...”early” flu season?
Yep - more evidence of it travelling through time to cause the prior flu seasons like this long before it existed. Just as it caused data trends from 1990-2019 and numerous other things before it existed.
Not closing down.
Not quarantining.
Go away.
You broke my trust so please, take your "warnings", fold them five ways, now sit on them and spin until you throw up. Repeatedly.
Thank you.
And when I worked for corporate they had nurses coming in every year to give you a flu shot.
I would line up like a good little peon.
And I would get the flu several times a year. Mainly because of bad lungs.
But when I left corporate I stopped getting the flu shot. There was no plan I just didn't do it and my doctor had quit asking because I always got it at work.
And I got the flu less and less even though I was interacting with the public more and more.
Make of that what you will.
I choose not to get the flu vaccine and it seems to be working out better.
“I got the flu shot. I get it every year. Even when the strains are mismatched, the flu shot provides significant protection against serious illness.”
