JD Vance blames immigration for Canada's 'stagnating' living standards

U.S. Vice-President JD Vance made a series of posts criticizing Canada’s political leadership, public broadcaster and immigration system, saying our living standards are “stagnating” because of all the “foreign-born” people living here.

“While I'm sure the causes are complicated, no nation has leaned more into ‘diversity is our strength, we don't need a melting pot, we have a salad bowl’ immigration insanity than Canada,” he said.

…“With all due respect to my Canadian friends, whose politics focus obsessively on the United States: your stagnating living standards have nothing to do with Donald Trump or whatever bogeyman the CBC tells you to blame,” he said. “The fault lies with your leadership, elected by you.”

The posting includes a chart from IceCap Asset Management in Halifax that shows the growth in living standards of Canada, the U.K. and the U.S. from the beginning of 2016 to the present.

One of Ice Cap Asset Management’s financial analysts, Richard Dias, added a one-word comment to the post saying that he “agreed.”

The chart shows the change in the GDP per person in each country, though the standard of living is generally tracked using a wider range of data.

The UN's Human Development Index uses a number of metrics that quantify what it means to live a long and healthy life, be knowledgeable and enjoy a decent standard of living. The World Bank's Living Standards Measurement Study also uses several metrics including outcomes in health, education, economic activities and access to housing.

The government under former prime minister Justin Trudeau had begun cutting immigration after it rapidly increased during the post-pandemic labour shortage.

Trouble is, most illegals are welcomed into Canada. They get a driver’s license and a car and jump onto I-35 to illegally invade Texas. If Texas had this many Indians during the Indian wars, the Cav would have gotten their butts kicked.

He is correct. When you have a set level of goods and more consumers you have to run harder just to stay in place.

Normally this levels it's self out rather quickly because you now have more people in the workforce producing goods and services.

In this case you do not.

You have more people taking from charity (government or private) and the same number of people working.

This results in the price of basic goods and services rising to a level that the people on the lower end of society not being able to afford unless they take charity as well.

Taking charity erodes your soul, it is bitter bread. But living on the streets is not an option. So you apply and you run into the other problem. There is a limit. Since you are a native you are not high on the list of people to be helped. So you not only had to humble yourself to ask for help but you have been denied in favor of the new people who have contributed NOTHING to the system.

This does not end well.

Don’t clutter threads with jibberish. I know it’s hard for you, but stay focused.

Probably bigger causes: socialism, declining educational standards, and green extremism.

He’s right about immigration just look at all the damage done to Europe with it it’s chaos and what Biden and company did with it.

It’s a tool for destruction if not kept in check.
