THINKING OF MOVING

Posted on 11/06/2025 12:28:20 PM PST by 7thson

I have some questions that I want to run by my fellow Freepers, but a little context first.

The man who put a $45,000.00 bounty on Pam Bondi - Tyler Maxon Avalos - was released with no bail though "under strict conditions: a GPS ankle monitor, nightly curfew, restricted internet use, and mandatory mental health treatment. He is barred from possessing firearms or alcohol and cannot leave Minnesota while awaiting trial."

The man who threw a sub sandwich at a Federal LEO, today was found not guilty of a misdemeanor.

I live in Virginia and after Tuesday, I see this state on a fast track in becoming NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc. I see lawlessness coming big time in Virginia - in Richmond, the Norfolk area, and the Northern Virginia Metro area.

I am now thinking of moving to Tennessee, My questions - am I running away from the problem? By moving, am I giving up? By moving, am I just making it easier for the lawless Dems to import more criminals in Virginia?

I live in Virginia too, but I also have a second home in North Carolina, which is not much better politically. I spend a lot of time there, specially in the spring & summer, fishing is great on the lake. It wouldn’t be too much trouble to move if the stuff started hitting the fan around here. But right now I am content with my situation and am more predisposed to fight than flee.

Oak Ridge should be an excellent destination- except for all those crazy scientists and engineers!

I bet it’s beautiful there today.

Assault doesn’t occur only with a “weapon”. I’m not sure I understand what you are saying.

Idaho has been infested for a while. Up where I am (well was but back in Oregon to care for an elderly mother) californicators are everywhere. Especially gay area remote workers. Then, Biden was dumping plane and bus loads of illegals in the dead of night to be spread all over. Sandpoint has fallen. CDL fell a long time before SP. Very sad to see.

When one person stays to ‘fight’ the goobermint imports 50 immigrants to replace you. At my age, there’s no fighting that makes a difference anymore. Nothing I’ve done or voted for has made one bit of difference anywhere I’ve lived. Find a nice quiet place and enjoy the rest of your days in relative peace and quiet.

I disagree. But I also disagree with the dumbing down of the language.

Assault is the threat of physical harm, causing another person to fear imminent injury, while battery is the actual unlawful physical contact or striking of another person. In essence, assault creates the fear of harm, while battery involves the physical act of harm. You can be charged with assault without battery, but battery includes the elements of an assault.

Both assault and battery are a crime, with the latter being more serious. Physical act includes throwing and hitting with objects. Technically, it doesnt matter if its a hammer or a pillow.

And then theres the charge of impeding law enforcement engaged in duties.

This guy, minor as a serious threat his sandwich was, was guilty of battery. The jury decided to ignore the language of the law and nullify instead. This is something they can do, but in this case it was not for the right reason, IMO. Nullification is properly used to nullify a bad law. Laws against battery are not bad laws. A person spits in your face, thats battery. A person hits you with a rock, thats battery. The sandwich is the same, silly as it may seem. Society seems to have got bat-Chit silly.

Do I think he should get hard time? Perhaps not. But guilty, yes. Probation and fine, probably.

The fact that we are now subjective in judging rather than objective and understanding the law does not bode well in the future. Today a sandwich, tomorrow a 2x4.

6 months ago I moved from the East SF bay area to Cleveland TN.

I have absolutely no regret. Things are different here for sure, but you could never get me to move back to CA.

It does help that I'm retired and debt free. I think that the daily grind of working and paying bills would be close to the same if that were my case. Although my daughter is making better headway here than in CA, so there's that to consider.

Well, I moved to VA many years ago when it was still red and managed well. I was leaving a beautiful state that had started to turn blue and is now a leftist hell hole. That’s the dilemma, the Marxists are taking over so many places so quickly that you could move elsewhere just to have the new place turn blue.

Thank you for writing this. I think many people don’t understand this distinction and definition of the law.

I am one of those who moved to TN from California just 6 months ago. I refer to myself as a refugee when asked where I came from, and ask that it not be held against me.

I agree that TN is vastly different than when you were growing up. The whole country is different. Areas like Nashville, Knoxville, and to a lesser extent Chattanooga where people are flocking to most defiantly have a greater chance of turning to shit. The old rule applies: More people, more crazy.

Me too, Laz, me too. My advice to the OP - get while the gettin’ is good. I’m in Washington, north of hell-hole Seattle. I waited too darn long to get out and, now, it’s too late. I’m too old to do much more than pack a toothbrush. It’s a daunting task to make a bunch of new friends so I have a safety net wherever I would go. Nothing worse than being old and not having family or friends close that could bring a bottle of 7-UP if I was sick. That’s no way to live. Idaho is great if you can stand snow.

Yes. It’s the intent. Some idiot said they should have went with resisting arrest. Why? Obviously can’t be arrested for throwing a sandwich since the idiot says it is not a weapon.

Police around here won’t enforce them. These gun laws only apply to innocent gun owners and not criminals who they catch and release. Everyone here knows that.
