Will SNAP benefits not be issued in November due to the government shutdown? My cleaning lady, a cancer survivor receiving SNAP (she desperately needs it) just asked me, and I don't know. Does any FReeper definitively know?

No matter how many reasons they have on their list not to vote for a democrat they keep doing it.
They must like the democrats tongue and whispers in their ear?.
I do not pay her the minimum wage. I pay her far more, but it's not a full time job.
It's amazing what a 16 y.o. son can eat. Also, there are many days when she is too ill to work. When she's "On", she's "On". But there are days of extreme nausea due to the anticancer drugs, plus other physical problems. I admire her for working hard despite these handicaps.
Thank you. They get a lot of starches, by no means a healthy balanced diet. And it's not a month's supply of food. At one church place, she gets 1 grocery bag a month. Not enough food for her and her son for a month, no way.
Very sweet of you
I made the assumption she was elderly and NY was where you lived based on your screen name.
My bad if she isn't elderly. If she is elderly Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels are still worth a shot.
“Just like Walmart, government is subsidizing your employee.”
WRONG thought process!! Most positions at Walmart are for cashiers and stockers. IOW, entry level positions for students, etc. THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO BE CAREERS!
The problem is when lazy people decide not to better themselves and make cashier or stocker their career then demand subsidizing from the government to take care of their illegitimate kids. That needs to end.
Are you from DU?
I just ordered her a big box of Amazon food. I have always fed her from my own refrigerator when “I happened to be cooking something. Here, try some.” and that’s all she ate that day. And I didn’t get paid a dime for it, except the satisfaction of seeing her enjoy the food. She pays me back for some of the things I front her money for, but not everything. So do not think to lecture me. I’m way ahead of you.
Obviously not elderly either.
Help him get an after school job.
I started working at 14.
You are the one coming on a forum asking the silly question. People WILL judge you.
It’s good you stepped up for her.
Here it comes... The FR is about to find out it is a lot closer to home than they foolishly assumed through myth.
I just checked since you’re in Maryland. Your governor, Wes Moore, has decided not to use state funds to cover snap benefits the federal government has been providing for EBT recipients of Maryt. Your maid will have to go to food banks. According to the Maryland snap benefits website, your maid has been received $180.00 per month for groceries.
2 Thessalonians 3:10: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat’”
Will she work for food?
Did you not read that the lady is a cancer survivor and probably not able to work a full time job to raise her son? That’s the kind of person who is in NEED of additional supplementation to her budget, which someone on this forum would support (not from the government, but from the Church).
Your responses seem heartless and cruel.
We are doing this with someone helping our extended family.
And that’s the answer, get back to supporting your extended family, if everyone just did that, we wouldn’t need big government. But now, kids don’t even want to take care of their parents, in their old age.
Around here, there are fat sumbitches that take advantage of every give-away. “Truly needy” is probably less than 1/2 of the folks eligible.
“2 Thessalonians 3:10: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat’””
I’m so sick of that... There are a hundred others that say we should not be greedy and help our fellow man.
You worried about it cutting into your throw away Indian Casino money? Or “new Toy” money?
Why the details on the person? Not relevant to your question.
Makes me think you are not a Freeper.
My mother in on EBT as well as what assistance I can provide.
A few things in this thread need to be prefaced by that statement:
She has a support structure. If it’s her family or a friend, fostering these relationships should be two way beneficial. In other words we don’t wait until we are thirsty to start digging a well.
My mother’s coming habits have become... Let’s say, lazy. She’s often bored. Dinner takes about 10 to 20 minutes to make. Food gets tossed. It’s all obscene. I’ve been teaching her to make the basics - bread, butter, whipped cream, pastry dough, sauces from scratch. But the idea is still there... She isn’t doing it because it’s not at all convenient.
And this is where the problem lies. People on EBT are not spoiled, they aren’t greedy, they aren’t undeserving (not all). They are convinced that food comes from a building filled with magic that’s totally locked off from the normal person. It’s our packaging.
Suddenly chipped tuna becomes “Starkist (R) tangy sensations” air fried potato slices become “lays crispy delights snacks” and pepper becomes “flamin’ hot (tm)”
Marketing has created this strange divide between what they have to offer and the reality of what it is.
What are “kettle potato chips” ? Well apparently I need some kind of special “kettle” to make it, and Pampered Chef has one for only $400. Ranch dip? I need powdered... Um... Ranch?
So many people have been made ignorant to what food actually is because the marketing language in this space makes the food seem somehow so special that only a food company can make it. Like bottled water. I get it that pipes are gross but I mean... We can’t filter water anymore?
