So enjoyed the op-ed.

"....ultra-processed sludge" and especially, "there's one thing these billionaires never seem to understand: misery doesn't make people easier to control forever. Eventually, it makes them hungry for truth, freedom, and a real cheeseburger."

Freedom is quite tasty. More around this world should have it in their diets. Delicious, actually.

hogwash “study” ... how about a fake meat study with a control arm of folks whose diets consists of typical fast food and junk food, say, who eat McDonald’s crap food several times a week, eat bags of Doritos and drink liters of soda pop daily ...

and no mention of the “new” ingredient that supposedly causes brain “inflammation” and depression ...

Those who consumed PBMAs faced a staggering 42% higher risk of depression.

I'm suspicious of this conclusion. People who eat PBMAs do so to save money, thus indicating that at least a fraction are financially distressed which might also skew these conclusions that the "meat" caused the problem. It may be true, but such psychological studies are always fraught with the difficulty of isolating variables in human behavior.

A new study out of the U.K. just found that plant-based “meat” products, like the kind Gates has been pumping billions into, are linked to higher rates of depression. And no, not just some mild sadness.

I suspect this is a case of reverse causality or "confounding." Researchers see cause and effect of eating fake meat >>> higher rates of depression.

Rather, I suspect vegetarians, particularly more radical ones who would seek out "fake meat" alternatives, have more mental-health issues to start with.

At what point in the article does the author tell us what is the “new ingredient” that has been “uncovered” in fake meat?

I haven’t had Mr. Gates veggie meat, but in the past I have sampled veggie “burger” patties and breakfast sausage and my main compliant was it was difficult to cook because there was no fats involved in the “meat”, thus rendering a very inferiior product.

Oh, great, and I just had a semi-fake breakfast. Fried spam, Ore-Ida hash brown patties and scrambled eggs with chopped green onions.

Delicious, but now I wonder if there is any fake meat chemicals in the spam.

Like other posters, as I was reading the article I was disappointed that the mentioned study did not look into what chemicals in the fake meat may have been causing brain inflammation and depression.

Anyone able to let me know what that “new ingredient” is? I scanned the article, and didn’t find it.
