NASA has just pulled off a deep space first that could forever change the way we communicate beyond Earth. A silent beam of light traveled an unimaginable distance—and then something remarkable happened.
In a major step toward high-speed space internet, NASA has successfully exchanged laser-encoded messages with a spacecraft over 350 million kilometers from Earth. The story, reported by IFLScience, marks the success of one of the most ambitious space communication tests ever attempted—and may open the door to a future where humans on Mars send back livestreams in real time....
To carry out this experiment, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) used its Table Mountain Facility in California to send a focused 3-kilowatt laser beacon toward Psyche. Once the spacecraft locked onto the beam, it fired back its own optical signal carrying encoded information....
Capturing the faint returning signal required the capabilities of Caltech’s Palomar Observatory in San Diego County. The observatory’s large dome and sensitive detectors picked up the returning photons, decoding them into meaningful data...

Musk sent up a Dollar Tree laser-pointer and turned it on.
“Psyche” ??
Red shift.
Who’d-a-thunk light could travel so far?
Drink your Ovaltine
The Theory of Relativity could also be called the Theory of the Absolute Speed of Light. All the mathematics and conclusions are based one simple premise: the speed of light in a vacuum is always the same.
Then you need to flip up the mirror because the light will be behind you shining right into the mirrior. Right?
“detection of climate change”
Clue that they are lying....
Faster transmission of data speeds. Like how a cable connection works better than a phone hook up. I remember the New Horizons probe that went by Pluto and how painfully slow the data came back. The shorter the wavelength the more data it can carry per second.
They will work fine.
It is all relative.
“Earthlings, do you feel sluggish an run down?Try new Saturn supplements to make you too feel like gravity is a thing of the past. Text Saturn to 123123....
Psyche is a metal rich asteroid that is a target of a probe already in progress. It was launched 2 years ago and will arrive in 2029.
they shine but won’t illuminate the area in front of the car
If they want instant comms they need to get this quantum stuff figured out. And they are making huge progress recently. Using entanglement they can communicate instantly anywhere in the universe.
Send more Chuck Berry.
“Send more Chuck Berry. And send less Taylor Swift.”
“A silent beam of light”
As opposed to that loud light. Which I’m hatin’ on.
