The suspect in Charlie Kirk's assassination has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident.

Law enforcement sources told Daily Mail that Robinson was taken into custody as the alleged assassin who killed Kirk at a rally at Utah Valley University in Utah on Wednesday.

The alleged killer confessed to his father Matt, who is a a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department, sources told Daily Mail. His father then contacted authorities and secured his son before he could be taken into custody.

His mother, Amber Robinson, works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services, a company contracted by the state of Utah to help disabled people receive care.

Robinson was a student at Utah State University on a scholarship, insiders confirmed to Daily Mail.

The family's social media profiles show Robinson, who has two younger brothers, often enjoying family vacations and sharing smiling selfies, including some celebrating the alleged killer getting into college.

Robinson was taken into custody around 11pm local time in southern Utah on Thursday night. He lives in a $600,000 six-bedroom home in Washington, Utah - about 260 miles south of Kirk's assassination in Orem.

Officials have yet to confirm a motive to the assassination.

Authorities said at a press conference on Thursday night that Robinson will face the death penalty if convicted.

“Why should he fire Patel? The FBI had no reason to provide security at a private event for a private citizen. They made an arrest within 36 hours of the event - and probably had a good idea who they were looking for even earlier. Also - your racism is showing calling H1B just because he is of Indian descent. He was born in NY and lived here all of his life.”

DITTO!!!

there’s no one above God’s forgiveness if its genuine

Correct. Surely, Nebuchadnezzar is the Bible's chief exemplar.

“The FBI had no reason to provide security at a private event for a private citizen.”

I’ve actually wondered why the FBI inserted themselves in this at all. Isn’t it a Utah issue? Nothing crossing state lines? I’m probably missing something.

I will suggest the President told the FBI to immediately get involved and take over.

The event is a political assassination of a national figure

A later post mentions that he either flunked out or dropped out of the engineering program at Utah State and was enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program in St. George, UT. As for the venue, roof access appears to have been relatively easy — just climbing over a railing. UVU’s campus is essentially a concrete jungle, with elevated catwalks that make rooftop access much simpler than it should be. It was a terrible choice in terms of security. Mr. Kirk's security team should have evaluated the location and immediately flagged it as unsafe.
A very bitter young man that was indoctrinated by his mother and destroyed two families and assassinated a potential future POTUS.

"She probably will not ask for DP."

That's the job of the arresting authorities and the D.A. and/or State Attorney General. I just read that he's been charged with aggravated murder; obstruction of justice - capital/first degree felony conduct; and felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has said that state officials are moving to pursue the death penalty.

"Yes, two siblings."

Thanks for getting back to me. Had to leave for a doctor's appointment, and just got back home.

I wondered the same thing. According to several on-line articles, the FBI has broad authority to assist state and local law enforcement. Here’s some examples:

Their was an incident locally some years back that at first didnt seem to have any justification for the FBIs involvement. The long and short of it was that because the internet was involved the crime had “crossed state lines” so wasnt solely local jurisdiction any longer.

If the shooter said anything, coordinated anything, bought something for that event, and did it online then by the “crossing state lines” argument they automatically could be involved.

Good points. Does the fact that Kirk crossed state lines for the Utah event have any relevance?

Im not an attorney or LEO so I guess I cant really say. Assuming that he wasnt on some kind of federal level watch list for belonging to some organization or engaged in trafficking illegal goods then I dont see how it could.

Am I the only one who is having a difficult time believing that guy could effectively pull off a kill shot from 200 yards?

Nope. Several others have postulated the same idea but people with a little more gun knowledge have corrected that idea. The distance now seems to be 124 meters so not a hard shot at all. Others here have questioned the use of a 30-06 bolt action but the M1 rifle used in WW II was very effective and standard civilian armor wouldn't hold up especially if he used a military round with a steel core.

“Patel is doing fine. What is your problem with Patel?”

Trashing Patel and Bondi is the dirty trick to get at Trump. The sneaky way to infer Trump is incompetent for hiring them.

Are you saying that anybody could make a 200 yard shot without any previous shooting experience?

No

It wasn’t 200 yards. It’s 145 at the max.

Thank you - good information. Although I am unsure what your point is.

145 makes it easier to be accurate. Perhaps you meant to tell the folks who think it was a "professional" or that it was a difficult shot.
