Dean Winters - known as Mayhem in Allstate Insurance commercials - says he hasn't been able to take a step without being in pain for 12 YEARS after multiple amputations due to bacterial infection
Daily Mail UK ^ | November 03, 2021 | JUSTIN ENRIQUEZ, ADAM LEVY

Winters had contracted a bacterial infection which lead him into cardiac arrest for over two minutes while he was in an ambulance ride across Central Park

He was able to be revived by paramedics but got gangrene which resulted in two of his toes and half a thumb being amputated

He recently said: 'I haven’t taken a step since 2009 without being in pain . 'I’ve got neuropathy on, you know, on a whole different level where I can’t feel my hands and my feet. But if I stepped on a pebble, it’s like I go through the roof'

Winters also said he originally turned down the Allstate Insurance role because he was undergoing a 10th surgery but he said the company was 'relentless'

He said: 'It’s crazy if you look in the Webster dictionary, the Old English definition of the word "mayhem" is "one with amputations"'

===============================================================================

He is known for starring as Mayhem in the Allstate Insurance advertising campaign.

And Dean Winters knows all to well what the effect of a whirlwind of chaos can cause someone in their actual life.

The 57-year-old actor has revealed that he has been in constant pain since undergoing multiple amputations following a bacterial infection.

He told Page Six on Tuesday: 'I haven’t taken a step since 2009 without being in pain.

I grew up in the age of Madmen.

I actually enjoy a good ad.

They just rarely make ‘em like that anymore.

I love good commercials, too. Collected the Clydesdale commercials, and am still trying to find the Christmas poetry reading perfume one that knocked me over.

Jeepers, sorry about your chicken.

I know that raccoons can be real pests.

I still like the little buggers, though.

You’re likely already doing what this website recommends, but if not and since your chickens come first...

From the article: "I went septic due to an illness that I had as a kid and it caught up with me."

No, he went septic because he ignored an infection.

I can't find any report of what that childhood illness was.

My favorite ‘Mayhem’ commercial was when he pretended to be a satellite dish atop a high roof. When he fell off and smashed into a carport below, they ran some fine print saying “Do not attempt this at home.” All these years later it still makes me laugh.

Raccoons are smart and are difficult to catch.

They have hands, just like humans, not paws like other animals. The trap I use is a live trap and then I take the animal out on Eglin AFB range about 6 miles from home and turn them loose.

When I first started using the trap, borrowed from next door neighbor, the bait would disappear but the trap was not tripped. I thought mice or a rat was getting it and didn’t weigh enough to trip the trap.

It was the raccoons reaching into the sides of the cage and taking the bait without going into the trap itself.

Once I figured that out, I put screen wire around the outside of the trap so they couldn’t put their hands through it.

But they figured that out and just ripped the screen away.

Then I put the screen back on and tied it down with a brick on each side of the cage and backend.

They moved the bricks.

Finally I got some heavy cement blocks and they couldn’t move those, so I caught 4 raccoons over the last two weeks.............

I like the one where he pretends to be a cat and pushes stuff off the shelves................

Lots of funny ones to choose from. I have a cat who enjoys being ‘Mayhem’ too.

My fave is where he’s a cleaning lady that falls down the stairs. His arm was pointing the wrong way and I didn’t catch it until the 3rd time I saw it.

I saw him interviewed on "Fox & Friends" once.

His commercials are good (the first few times I see one of them).

But I hate the Allstate ads which feature a stupid white man (which seems to be most of them)--leaving the sunroof open when the car goes through the car wash, bringing duck to eat at a tailgate party for a University of Oregon football game, etc. I always change the channel immediately.

IIRC, I first saw him in “Third Watch”, as a cop.

Nope, not him. An actor named Jason Wiles. Looks a lot like him though!

I did enjoy Dean as “The Vulture” on Brooklyn 99, though.

I recently completed thrice weekly neuropathy treatments, the therapy occurred over six months. My balance has improved significantly, as well as the reduction of pain and numbness in my legs and feet. I recommend it to anyone suffering from neuropathy.

The commercials are great. Better than any other insurance company’s stuff.

Imagine a little devil causing problems—and he’s that devil.

One of his first as Mayhem: teen-age girl driver, jealous of another girl who was “like…not even hot”.
