Florida law and city/county ordinances call pools “an attractive nuisance” and requires you to have a lockable fence around the pool, not just the back yard, so there’s two fences.
An alarm system for an unknown ‘swimmer’ like a toddler falling in, and various other necessities, flotation devices, etc.
Above ground pools (I hate those eyesores) you are required to remove the ladder(s) access when not in use.
1.) Law Enforcement Officers
Pot belly pigs are cute little pigs that grow into regular pigs. I know a guy who had one and it was huge. He gave it away to someone who promised to take good care of it and later when he asked them how it was doing they said it died. I’m sure it did. Just not of natural causes or neglect. Can you say bacon kids?
If you are really concerned about it, 1) have an attorney review your existing homeowner’s policy and 2) get a supplemental gun owner’s policy from a 3rd party.
Move to a Free State.
One Satuday here in Texas, a guy with a New England accent was in a local gun store looking at handguns. He found one he liked and asked the clerk where he had to register it to buy it in Texas, as he had just moved from Massachusetts.
Clerk said you don’t have to register a gun in Texas. Man asks what do I have to do to buy one, then. Clerk said if you have a Texas drivers license with your current address (he said he did), then all you do is fill out the federal 4473 form. Then we call the NICS center and if you don’t have a criminal record,we sell you the gun.
Well, he asked, when could he take the gun home? In about 15 minutes if you pass the NICS check. The guy was getting more and more incredulous of what the clerk was saying, and other customers were trying to assure him the Clerk was correct. He then thought we were all putting him on. He quickly left the shop, apparently terrified. Somebody, maybe me, shouted after him, “Welcome to Texas!”
If I were sentenced to live in Massachusetts for some reason, I’d be extremely careful about buying a gun, too.
No. You don not ever declare gun ownership until it is time to declare a loss.
I would have the thing filled in if I could get away with it. But then again…I would sell my house and move into a double wide in the woods if I could get away with it.
My wife keeps me civilized, and the grandkids come over for the pool. In a few years they will have their own friends, so that won’t last forever.
A friend of ours had a huge pool in their backyard. Came with the house, 1960’s era Rectangular pool. After a few years he got fed up with the cost and being in construction, brought home a bulldozer and filled it in. Built an addition and patio onto the house....................
I could see the potential problems there...
Then you had better have a policy to cover you in that case. CCWSAFE or others that provide legal coverage and represent you in a court hearing. Look online for them or ask someone who has coverage. They aren't expensive and can keep you out of jail.
A European wild boar is ok:?
Stop it! Stop being a weenie.
Though Texas is not one of these, I've had two guns stolen over the years, and I got both of them back.
But in my original question I wondered if my having a gun but not reporting it to the insurance company could allow them to deny my claim. As as been noted at least some companies require you to inform them if you have a swimming pool...which,presumably,would cause them to charge a higher premium or to stipulate that no accidents involving the pool would be covered.
Great story. It’s the same here in Idaho. My insurance lady grew up in some of our best elk hunting country. She didn’t ask if I own firearms. She just naturally figured I did. I carry and have for years. I recently change from USCCA to Attorneys On Retainer. They cover a lot of issues USCCA won’t. The reason I carry is so my guns don’t get stolen among other things.
If your gun is stolen immediately tell local coppers. You’d want to do the same if your car was stolen — and then used in a drive-by shooting.
Don’t bother insurance unless it is covered by your policy.
Mind, if gun is stolen you need to be able show that it was not your fault. E.g., in CaCaLand all guns must be locked up when in a car, and in the house if kiddies can get into the house. If this crappola does not apply to you (e.g., car was broken into and gun taken) make sure you tell coppers and provide them with the serial number.
The insurance question made no mention of an intent to carry, but that is interesting information. It’s a mystery why anyone chooses to live in such a place.
Depends on the insurance company. USAA doesn’t, but some others might.
How do they define “Pit Bull?” I have a dog who’s half American Bull Dog, a quarter American Staffordshire Terrier, a bit GSD, an he rest is indeterminable. Some jurisdictions include American Bull Doogs and ASTs in the definition and others don’t.
None of their business...
Reminds me of a couple of years ago when my wife and I drew up wills and the lawyers burst out laughing when I included a list of guns and peripherals that I hadn’t already given to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren...
The lawyers emphatically stated:
-Never put weapons into a will...
-Never put weapons into any document not required by law...
-Get them into the appropriate hands at the appropriate time..
My daughter, who now has our “power of attorney,” understands what I want to do with everything...
Insurance policies are not “required” to list your weapons...
