Then you had better have a policy to cover you in that case. CCWSAFE or others that provide legal coverage and represent you in a court hearing. Look online for them or ask someone who has coverage. They aren't expensive and can keep you out of jail.

It's my understanding that "umbrella" policies cover you for any lawful act you engage in. If I'm correct that would include a case were I shot a guy in self defense,an act that the state prosecutor would rule *was* in self defense and thus lawful. But despite that the guy's family accuses me,in a civil action,of having used "unreasonable force".

But in my original question I wondered if my having a gun but not reporting it to the insurance company could allow them to deny my claim. As as been noted at least some companies require you to inform them if you have a swimming pool...which,presumably,would cause them to charge a higher premium or to stipulate that no accidents involving the pool would be covered.
