A man died after he was sucked into a jet engine at one of Italy’s busiest airports on Tuesday — in what authorities believe could have been a suicide, according to local reports.
The man, who was neither a passenger nor an airport employee, evaded security checks and was spotted sprinting towards taxiing aircraft when he was killed, according to Italy’s national news agency ANSA.
He is believed to have snuck onto the runway intending to take his own life, according to the outlet.
The aircraft involved was an Airbus A319, operated by budget airline Volotea, which was due to depart from Bergamo to Asturias in northern Spain.
The aircraft had just completed boarding and was heading away from the terminal to the runway.

That seems an odd way to commit suicide. Perhaps he was a turbinosexual.
Well, I’ll give him points for originality....but sad to say the least.......notvto mention the horror of anyone who witnessed it.
I’ve had to scrub bird remains from aircraft fan blades - I can’t imagine THAT mess.
It’s a rather odd way to off yourself... There was likely something else going on here.
Clean-up on Taxi-Way 3....Stat!..............
Perhaps there was a specific passenger that he wanted to witness the act.

Maybe he was just trying to be a stowaway and accidently got sucked into the engine, not knowing the powerful intakes would do that.............

If it was a real suicide, what a nasty person he was.
If it was a setup - hm, why would they choose that as a way to off him? I know that making it appear that someone committed suicide is a popular way to off someone, but - that seems too spectacular!
Maybe it was an impersonation setup - there probably wasn’t a lot left of whoever died there and extensive forensic testing will be required to figure out the real identity.
Of course - now that I think about it - I’ve known people who WORKED FOR THE AIRLINES who would set stuff up like that and consider it a prank - like when the guy gets sucked into the engine they’re like “OOOPS!” and, after sharing a giggle, just walk off and pretend nothing happened. (Oh, yes I have! You wouldn’t believe what these dudes would admit to. They didn’t have to worry about getting fired because of their union.)
That’s why - I will tell you in all earnestness, because I care about your stupid a$$: TRY TO TRAVEL BY GROUND WHENEVER POSSIBLE AND/OR PRACTICAL. AIR TRAVEL IS NOT WORTH THE EXPENSE OR THE RISK!
Four paragraphs before they actually tell you where it happened.
I was working on these engines at the depot level when this happened......the story went around the facility like wildfire.
Not advocating suicide, but it would be such an instant death as to be practically painless, providing you went head first. (Though I don’t really see how you could go in any other way...)
