In an embarrassing moment, woke Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass admitted that her city was in such bad shape following the anti-ICE riots that it might not be ready to host the World Cup, pointing to how much graffiti had been left behind by rioters acting out in opposition to President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
For background, on June 10, 2025, LA Mayor Karen Bass reflected on the impact of the anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests that broke out on June 6 and culminated in the dispatching of the National Guard and the Marines by President Trump. During the conference, Mayor Bass admitted that there was such “extensive” graffiti that Los Angeles might not be prepared to host an event as significant as the 2026 World Cup.
During the press conference, Mayor Bass began by saying that the city had “not received words (sic) of raids” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, adding, ” I think you all understand that the city is not notified when ICE goes to a workplace. What we rely on, frankly, is reporting from the community, especially the immigrant rights organizations that have formed the rapid response network.”
Continuing, Mayor Bass conceded that the “violence we saw last night,” referring to the protests, was “unacceptable,” adding, “I do not believe that individuals that commit vandalism and violence in our city really are in support of immigrants. They have another agenda. If you support immigrants and the rights of immigrants to be in our city, you would not be tearing the city apart or vandalizing it.”
In addition, the mayor tried to downplay the significance and severity of the riots, saying, “Those of us in Los Angeles understand that the unrest that has happened are a few blocks within the downtown area. It is not all of downtown, and it is not all of the city. She continued, “Unfortunately, the visuals make it seem as though our entire city is in flames, and it is not the case at all. I think it’s important to say that.”
Then, Mayor Bass touched on the subject of “the violence and damage” caused by the riots, which she again described as “unacceptable,” saying, “It is not going to be tolerated, and individuals will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. No individual that is involved in vandalism should think because they went home that night that they’re off scot-free, because investigations will take place.”
Embarrassingly, the mayor then admitted that the “extensive vandalism downtown,” specifying “the graffiti that is just blanking a number of blocks” might stop the city from hosting the World Cup, saying, “This is about beautifying our city and bringing our city together. I am calling on business leaders, community leaders, faith leaders to come together downtown in the next few days to talk about how we are going to clean up the city.”
The mayor added that “city workers are already out there removing the graffiti,” but she clarified, “This is so extensive it’s going to take community-wide involvement.” The mayor then said, “We need people from all over the city to come to downtown and to help with this effort.”

Soccer?
Yeah who cares?
Some years ago, I visited a vendor in LA. My plane landed in Ontario CA where I stayed in the Holiday Inn.
On the third morning as I waited for my ride, I saw mountains. Serious and seemingly close mountains.
On the two days before, the mountains were obscured by smog. LA was ther but I couldn’t see it
I’d love to see ICE raids showing up in the background of Olympic events.
I’m glad I saw San Francisco when it wasn’t covered in feces.
So send the World Cup elsewhere already.
Cue the Netflix documentary(ies) about the alternative “street art culture” and famous “artists” that enrich everyone’s environment...
It would be a good gesture for Trump to move the LA part of the world cup to Mexico.
Although the decline of Southern California began with the election of Tom Bradley as LA mayor in 1973, it was still a great place to live until 1991 when George Deukmejian, our last conservative governor, left office. The decline accelerated after Proposition 187, a measure prohibiting illegal aliens form access to public facilities which was passed overwhelmingly by the voters in 1994, was overturned by a liberal judge.
Bass The Useless is useless
Let’s be honest, LA is a blight o America. LA is an embarrassment.
Oh, wait, this isn't from the Babylon Bee.
Smog in LA is not nearly as bad as it was in the 1950s-1980s when “eye irritation” reports were included in weather reports.
Au contraire.
She’s very useful to the Deep State.
That’s why they installed her.
LA didn’t vote for this.
bass is lying about the grafetti only showing up after the ice protest...
It’s been getting worse for probably the last decade, along with all the homeless living everywhere.
The ice protest were only really around the downtown area - the same area she called for curfews for...
The rest of the city is grafetti covered, because, like they do with shoplifters, robbers, etc, they won’t prosecute or punish anyone
Sure, on tv, the downtown l.a. area is pretty clean and grafetti and homeless free....
for about 2-3 blocks around city hall.... then it turns to doo doo
It’s all smoke and mirrors
San Fran cleaned up quickly for the Chinese …. I imagine of LA really wanted to , they could…. Especially for something as valuable, relatively speaking, as the Olympics. The fact this retard said this out loud basically guarantees the vandalism will only intensify.
Maybe some author can pen a comparison of the Rise and Fall of California to the rise and fall of say Rome. I personally witnessed the final push to the top, perhaps the successful apollo program and the ride down from the crest. It started slowly down, almost imperceptible but then wow, like a rolling stone. Declining academics, immigration, but perhaps even more so “tolerance” over pragmatism; liberalism over conservatism. Whatever, I don’t feel the genie can be put back in the bottle there. Worse, I am less hopeful it can be done nationally now given the recent BBB fiasco.
I remember being in Paris in 1994 and EVERY SINGLE BUILDING in central Paris was covered in graffiti from the street up to about arm’s length above your head. And most of it wasn’t words, it was just a bunch of squiggly lines painted on the buildings in different colors as if to say, “I don’t have nice things so I’m going to damage your otherwise nice building.” It was disgusting and I have no desire to go back.
“...it was just a bunch of squiggly lines painted on the buildings in different colors ...”
That was Arabic..............
Taggers should be shot on sight.
Well, what’s she doing running her mouth instead of out there with a bucket of soap and water cleaning up her peaceful protests. Arriba, arriba!
