Works fine, wouldn’t change a thing.
Just how I like it. Simple, not loaded with all kinds of ads and graphics that stifle response times when the signal is weak.
Don’t change a thing.
Are you the same person who keeps moving stuff around in WalMart and in grocery stores so that we can’t find stuff?
Absolutely perfect as is.
I am sure JRobinson would be happy to entertain any programing or software you are willing to volunteer.
25 more years!
Longer keywords would be good, maybe up to 30 characters.
And a SEARCH function to find strings in keywords.
We are here for the content.
Democrats keep thinking it is methodology that impedes their message. They focus on the method, not the message.
We focus on the message here...........
Fine the way it is.
Perfect the way it is.
kiss
thank you Jim Rob
A lot of changes could be made to be more user friendly.
One thing that woukd really be nice would be to have a Foreign News Category. There are always articles posted with titles like Horrific Bus Accident kill 20 and injures many more of course after you open the link it’s a story about Bangladesh where 100 people ride in the bus and another 75 ride on the roof.
This is a frequent question.
The frequent answer is, it’s old and not changing anytime soon.
I’m not JimRob nor do I play him on TV.
But the bottom line is, it works.
And FR isn’t cheap. If someone wants to pay for the new interface, more power to them.
Candidly, I like the interface….it makes me smarter by knowing about html coding.
It also keeps out the low information types. “Ewwwww…coding? That’s hard.”
Now….does this mean that the median age of FReepers is about 65? Yup.
Youldmthat median come down with fresh blood? Uh huh.
Would FR get an influx of noobs (who, by the way, would be ridiculed by old timers) if they made the interface simpler? Prolly not.
And thus, the circle of life is complete.
I like it just as it is.
well, i think i stay with/support FR for the exact same reasons as i still use command line interfaces, run Linux, and Windows NT/7. it’s called old school is better/safer school.
as far as other social media, i think i may still have an account on GAB that i don’t even look at much these days. so NADA for the rest. so i sure hope the change(s) you want don’t end up making me leave FR.
Let us dance ever so lightly into the "New FR Software" minefield!
A lot of you old guys still reading using DialUp im sure you’re very happy to have the hand cranked site. Have any of you noticed that just a couple years ago the postings were plentiful and it took quite a while to scan through them all, and now the content is greatly reduced.
Third rail topic ...
I would enjoy a better search capability, but...I wouldn’t change anything.
You've been here about as long as I have -- 20 years -- and while a lot of snazzy, glitzy website developments have come (and gone), FR keeps cranking along with its admittedly unspectacular but utterly straightforward, functional interface.
This is a Conservative site. Does it surprise you that its interface might be entirely suitable and appropriate?
I am thankful daily for JimRob's FreeRepublic, I am grateful for JohnRob's hard work in putting it together and keeping it running, and as a computer systems engineer and IT security person of 50 years, I'm not inclined to suggest breaking something that is working just fine, whose limitations are far exceeded by its positive attributes.
I like it just the way it is. If you want invasion of your privacy, lots of SPAM, and the feel of being petted, go to FaceBook or X
FR is fine as is. They run it very efficiently based on their budget size every quarter.
