.....Before I became a parent, I thought I’d raise my children with the same firmness that my West Indian teachers used at the small Episcopalian elementary school I attended in Brooklyn, N.Y. They were quick to discipline and had high expectations for us. I figured being strict would help prepare Black children for a world that rarely sees them as innocent — but that was before I became a mother, feeling the heavy responsibility of raising Black boys.
The effects of racism aren’t just for the history books. Black Americans carry the weight of discrimination and injustice from those before us, determined not to pass that trauma on to our children. No matter how hard I try, being their parent often feels like a tough balancing act. I feel caught between protecting them from the harsh realities of life in this country and giving them the opportunities to make mistakes and learn.
As a mother, physician and health equity advocate, I have seen how our health care system affects Black children, who often face longer wait times in emergency rooms, higher chances of being diagnosed incorrectly and a greater risk of not surviving through their first year of life. These health outcomes are connected to wider issues, including education.
For example, a report from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation found that Black boys face systemic bias in schools. Misunderstandings about their behavior in preschool can lead to harsh punishments, robbing them of their chance to learn and play. By middle school, harmful stereotypes can lead to them being excluded from gifted programs, hurting their confidence and interest in school. The Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling on affirmative action in college admissions will likely limit opportunities for Black students in fields such as medicine and law.

And an unwillingness to take responsibility for your actions—and blame something or someone else—is one of the greatest character flaws.
Ergo, screaming racism is a character flaw.
“America should not work toward a ‘color blind’ society but toward a society blind to color.”
-CDY, circa 1998.
We need more men like that, period.
As a physician, she could afford to hire a nanny and then tutors.
I see no mention of a father in the excerpt.
She throws in “physician” like I’m supposed to be instantly attentive and respectful. I have less respect for Drs than ever after the Covid fiasco
SPECIAL treatment is NOT equal treatment! Good cartoon !..
Now explain that when I see marches for “From the river to the see” I see black people who have wailed for years about systemic racism in the US supporting the annihilation of people based on race.
That's because they have idiots like you treating them who are so obsessed with seeing racism that you fail to do your job competently.
“Misunderstandings about their behavior in preschool…” WhTF does that mean? How do you “misunderstand” behavior ?
When I was in elementary school, I was in a gifted and talented class. We had no teacher and only were given books to read in the corner and do the work on our own time. The teachers were with the remedial children, 99% were minority. I wonder what this doctor’s education looks like - where did she go to school and who paid. Is she still paying off a college loan?
I wonder if this woman received her place in medical school because she was black?
But these are blacks who love the Lord, love people, and raise kids in two parent homes. There are blacks who “act black” who go to our church. But they have little influence. Our church was started by mostly whites with a heavy recruitment of married successful blacks to become the early leaders, all in a low income area. The people who chose our church are people who are tired of the persistent racial bitterness taught in other black churches and still getting nowhere in improving spiritual lives. It’s very analogous to good Christians leaving the leftist dominated, hedonist teaching “churches” and joining real churches that teach Biblical principles.
This ungrateful immigrant should take cognizance of the fact that young middle and working class white men make up 2/3 of the casualties in US foreign wars, including Iraq and Afghanistan or over double their percentage of the population. Some privilege. If she doesn’t like it here, she can boot herself back to the wonderful island in the Caribbean from which she decamped and stay there.
Yeah, if there’s a burden that her kids carry due to the color of their skin, it wasn’t placed there in the Antebellum South. I consider Karmelo Anthony sufficient reason to be circumspect of young black men. To say nothing of all of the black on white attackers whose namws blur into the recent past.
I’m a white mother with a CPR Training card and I’m worried about all the white little kids’ future. Their country is being given to foreign freeloading invaders from all over the planet by the DemonRATS.
Her attitude and the subtle message of inferiority she is giving her sons almost guarentees they wil be frustrated and very unhappy in their lives. Pathetic that she ultimately looks to the government and taxpayers to give her life meaning and fullfillment. Want to know how to overcome bigotry and discrimination? Look at the Jews and Italians how they dealt with it and prospered mightly in America.
Stop breaking the law and get a job.
And black fathers must stay with the mother and babies they create.
Simple.
Do that and STFU. I don’t care. It’s your problem and you refuse to fix it over 5 generations.
