Sail on, Sailor!
Saw the Beach Boys back in the 70s at an arena show. Brian who during that time was sporadic about appearing showed up that night. RIP to a legend.
Other thread here, didn’t see it before I posted.

If I had more time in my course and it wasn't gen ed, I would go more deeply into Pet Sounds, and why Wilson is at least as important as the Beatles, Doors, Traffic, and Cream in creating what is still the pinnacle of rock music.
RIP friend.
I always thought that the scene in American Graffiti in which the John Milner character (Paul Le Mat) laments “I don’t like that surfin’ $hit. Rock and roll’s been going down hill ever since Buddy Holly died” was a bit of a hoot. Certainly, no disrespect intended towards Brian though, RIP.
Now it’s dark and
I’m alone but
I won’t be afraid...
I was a Beach Boys fan even though I was not a beach buff or hot rod enthusiast. (In fact, I didn’t like being in the water and never learned to swim.) I saw the Beach Boys in concert back in my days as an usher at Seattle Center. This was after the release of Good Vibrations, and I was surprised they could repeat some of those unusual effects on stage.
60’s really messed up a lot of talented creative people.
Alice Cooper told a story about how Brian came up to him to ask him to introduce him to John Lennon which he did. Lennon was really nice and pleasant and after Brian had left, Alice told John he couldn’t believe they had never met. John told him that they had met dozens of times but because of Brian’s mental issues, he could never recall it but John always greeted like they had met for the first time. Rest in peace.
The LA that inspired much of Brian Wilson’s music no longer exists.
Let me go home
That sucks! I’ve been a huge fan for 50 years!
I want to go home..

Pet Sounds is said to have been Paul McCartney’s inspiration when writing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Oddly enough he apparently hated the beach... His brother Dennis was the actual ‘beach boy’. Brian preferred being alone in a studio, hated touring and according to the Barenaked Ladies, he spent a great deal of time in bed.

I love all of their music, but ‘Darlin’ and ‘California Girls’ will always be my faves.
RIP, Brian. Thanks for the memories!
Man, this news crushes me. I love The Beach Boys. My favorite song is probably my I Get Around, but I love all their stuff. Take a listen to this from their last album. Brian’s on lead vocals. The lyrics may out a lump in your throat.
