Best of the Beach Boys is in my pool cd rotation. One day I had it on full blast while working in my back yard...there are speakers out there....and God Only Knows was playing. I could hear my neighbor that lives behind me singing along while working in his yard. Made me smile. I met Brian Wilson at a Jimmy Buffett concert in Irvine..maybe 20 years ago. He was bad then. Surf on Brian.

"Sail On Sailor"

That's one of the two Beach Boys songs I play most often on the jukebox in my local bar. The other is "Don't Worry Baby."

Funny, I would think this would be played on Yacht Rock, but I can never recall hearing it there.

Pet Sounds is said to have been Paul McCartney’s inspiration when writing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Oddly enough he apparently hated the beach... His brother Dennis was the actual ‘beach boy’. Brian preferred being alone in a studio, hated touring and according to the Barenaked Ladies, he spent a great deal of time in bed.

I love all of their music, but ‘Darlin’ and ‘California Girls’ will always be my faves.

RIP, Brian. Thanks for the memories!

I was in a band in 1965, we opened for a Beach Boys concert in Pa. They came early and we helped them set up to rehearse. We were in awe as they rehearsed. They were friendly and we spent some time with them afterwards. They were promoting their album and traveing the county. Lifelong fan

My favorite Beach Boys song is Shut Down (1963), a tale of a drag race between a 1962 Dodge Dart and a '63 Chevrolet Corvette. This was the first song that Brian Wilson co-wrote with Roger Christian, a noted lyricist and disc jockey.

"I always thought that the scene in American Graffiti in which the John Milner character (Paul Le Mat) laments “I don’t like that surfin’ $hit. Rock and roll’s been going down hill ever since Buddy Holly died” was a bit of a hoot."

It was also a rather poignant touch at the end of that movie where they played the Beach Boy's, "All Summer Long" over the ending credits. A bittersweet, perfect ending.

I grew up in SoCal and the Beach Boys were part of the soundtrack of my youth. Rest in peace, Brian, and thanks for the memories.

“The LA that inspired much of Brian Wilson’s music no longer exists.”

Take a look at the audience of the Carol Burnett Show.

Man, this news crushes me. I love The Beach Boys. My favorite song is probably my I Get Around, but I love all their stuff. Take a listen to this from their last album. Brian’s on lead vocals. The lyrics may out a lump in your throat.

My ex husband’s band toured with the Beach Boys but I can’t remember what year. Late 60’s maybe.

Bought the “I get around” album for $2.50 when it came out.

A true musical genius. RIP.

100% YES! Thanks for the reminder of another GREAT BB song! More innocent times. ;)

“Wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new?
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through

Happy times together we’ve been spending
I wish that every kiss was never ending
Oh, wouldn’t it be nice?”
