the width of an airplane seat is typically 17 inches
who says all seats must be the same, each row could have a slightly different configuration
for two side by side seats you could have different configurations
a 16 inch seat next to an 18 inch seat
a 15 inch seat next to a 19 inch seat
and so on.
Charge a little less for those willing to use the narrow seats, charge a little more for those who want a wider seat.
I’m not sympathetic to morbid apron obesity
Too many things to do about it today
But some folks especially men are big folks
Some well muscled fighter or lineman
I know a guy works out with The Mountain
He’s six seven 350
Strength beyond comprehension
Zero fat
Should he pay more
It’s a question u know
This guy can afford forward cabin but those aren’t always there
If special accommodations are needed for large or overweight people, what about: tall people, short people, blind people, deaf people, persons using a walker or wheelchair, people sensitive to light, persons highly allergic, persons who need to perform their religious customs, people who need space for special medical products, people with mental conditions that could make a flight uncomfortable or dangerous to other passengers, etc.
Where does it end? Being kind to others with problems they may not be able to avoid I understand. Avoiding a costly (and likely unjustified) lawsuit I also understand. But there are other forms of travel available, and forcing passengers and businesses to make every accommodation under the sun is a fool’s errand.
Air fare should be based on persons weight. Fuel consumption for flight is directly affected by weight. Why should a 90 lb female pay same airfare as a 300 lb man? Makes zero sense.
The airlines are not going to accommodate their wishes, and with the GLP-1 drugs there’s increasingly little justification for their predicament. There’s no need to be cruel to obese people, who know far more about dieting than those lecturing them about the need to go on a diet, but they are not entitled to free seats.
We have too many self-identified victim groups. No special privileges for ANY of them!
Perhaps passenger rates should be calculated much like freight.
Fee per seat or seats.
Plus
Fee per pound per mile.
It should not be the same rate to “ship” a 60 lb child as a 300 lb adult.
If you are bigger and need space you should buy two seats. If I pay for a seat I expect to have a whole seat.
I do not like it anymore than I like seeing them on TV touting a remedy. How about eating less?
Well, I paid for a full seat, not half a seat.
BBFS!
You shouldn’t make jokes at the expanse of others.
Eat a salad. !!!!!!!
Love, Wesley
it is so easy to criticize the obese amongst us but
SOMETIMES it is medical and not just gluttonry
at any event, the damned airlines have been skinnying down the seats way too much!! and cutting leg room too
nothings worse than being trapped next to someone who spills into your seat space. you should be able to pick “no fat seatmates “ when you pick a seat
