If you think eggs are expensive, just wait until the new tariffs hit cars. Goldman Sachs estimates tariffs on imported vehicles could raise prices by $5,000 to $15,000. That’s because tariffs are taxes on foreign imports that are paid by American consumers. These tariffs apply to almost every conceivable product. As a result, energy will be more expensive, and gas prices in some parts of the country could see as much as a 70-cent increase in the cost per gallon. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the building of a single-family home could become up to $10,000 more expensive because of the tariffs. With the tariffs on aluminum, even beer and hard seltzer are likely to increase in price.
Unfortunately, these tax increases are on top of the taxes you have already paid when tariffs were imposed during the first Trump administration. The Tax Foundation calculated that tariffs between 2018 and 2023 imposed an additional $1,753 in costs on American families. Now that the tariffs apply to even more products, the tax increases are poised to be even higher this time. The Peterson Institute predicts tariffs could annually cost families $1,200 a year, while Yale’s Budget Lab estimates the tariffs would cost the average American family $4,200 annually.
The fact that tariffs are taxes paid by consumers is not news to the American people. That is why vehicle sales jumped almost 13% last month as Americans sought to make their purchases before the 25% tariffs on motor vehicles and parts went into effect.

::...the Smoot-Hawley tariffs were badly mismanaged and misused... This is a negotiation ploy by the Trump Administration, to bring about FAIR and equitable means to level the playing field. “
All of the countries impacted by the US tariff scheme NEED the U.S. consumer to continue in the global “trade” system.
Trump knows that we hold all the power.
Tariffs are a fee to get access to the U.S. markets, the largest consumer population in the world.
He can go live himself for long time!!
What a traitor Rand Paul turned out to be!
Losses will be temporary. Even with all the hype surrounding “Trump erasing 7 trillion” in wealth , this does not have the same ,end of the world hyperbole as previous stock market crashes. Lots of folks complaining know this needs to happen.
He didn’t notice, we already had tariffs, but they were directed against us. Trump is saying, if you tariff us, we will reply.
That, and it’s an excellent non-military way to apply pressure where pressure is due.
i know what he is against
what is he for?
what is rand’s plan?
MayflowerMadam, Yours is the best answer ever, well said!
“He tried to warn you ...”
Yeah - Rand teamed up with Susan Colins (Maine’s version of Lisa Murkowski) to resist the Trump actions...what’s that tell you about his credibility these days? He’s becoming the “consummate” politician.
Your boy is going off the deep end.
That Rand is a piece of garbage dummy with no clue about how hardball is played? Yeah, we already figured that out.
Trump was president 2016/2020. Tariff was in his vocabulary back then as well. None of this bullshit happened back then.
So, whats wrong with fair trade? Someone has gotten to Rand.
I smell Sellout RINO.
He is a bit but he has different reasons to the usual suspects like Collins
And Kentucky’s other senator is backing him up which is unusual
“What a traitor Rand Paul turned out to be!”
He is not a traitor at all, he is like most right now, they have extremely short memories and did not learn from history. We have already been here and done this and it has already been proven to work.
This is one of Trump’s strategies that helped create Trump’s great economy during his first term. And even with the challenges of Covid to overcome at the same time.
This not learning anything from history cannot be judged too harshly, because 95% of this board right here has learned absolutely zip from history either. It is a universal problem based on human nature.
Rand is wrong on this one. He is a tool of his donors. Panic is the order of the day. It is a time to stay calm and steady. What is the alternative? Allow other countries to inflict high tariffs on our goods and services and we do nothing? We are running an annual trade deficit of a trillion dollars. We are hemorrhaging jobs.
Take another hit of LSD Paul.
“Trump was president 2016/2020. Tariff was in his vocabulary back then as well. None of this bullshit happened back then.”
Exactly right, how soon we forget we have already been here and done this...
I don't think many people struggling with food prices are car shopping.
One thing I wonder about is; A Toyota Camry is more made in the USA than most "domestic" autos. A Ford Ranger is a rebranded Mazda B2000. Small GM = Toyota. Small Chrysler = Mitsubishi. GM truck engines are made in MX. Most "domestic" automotive plastic parts are made in Canada. Many Ford transmissions are made in Germany.
Define Made in the USA.
Who the hell do [other countries] think they are, expecting [America] to bolster their economies when we’re so severely in debt? * * * Well said, MayflowerMadam. The threat of tariffs is already working for us! Look at all the car companies expanding in the U.S. and moving out of Mexico, etc. Vietnam and other countries are coming to the bargaining table. China tried to destroy Trump and the USA with its Covid virus and fentanyl. Now they trapped and will need to eat crow. And look at all the countries who own big chunks of America's massive debt. If America goes bankrupt, we might have a war on our hands. Keep DOGE going big time! A streamlined and fraud-controlled USA is gonna be strong, resilient, and will attract even more funding for our bonds. Think of the tariffs as the equivalent of each breadwinner in a family negotiating with his or her employer. Getting the best deal is the way the world works! Suddenly the next generation of school graduates can look forward to exciting employment opportunities to grow their household and live the American dream. We are living in exciting times for America and our free republic: it's now working for We the People! |
