As if Disney didn't have enough to worry about with its ongoing string of disappointing returns for its Star Wars projects, sequel trilogy star John Boyega decided to chime in with a new interview and call fans of the popular space opera saga racists.
Yes, that's just what a flagging intellectual property needed — accuse all of its devoted fans of not being willing to accept non-white characters.
Boyega, who played stormtroop-turned-resistance-fighter "Finn" in the sequel trilogy, makes the allegation in a new AppleTV+ documentary titled Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, which, one could assume, is about black leading men in Hollywood.
From Variety:
'Lemme tell ya, Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space. It's a franchise that's so white that a Black person existing in [it] was something,' Boyega said in the documentary. 'You can always tell it's something when some Star Wars fans try to say, "Well, we had Lando Calrissian and had Samuel L. Jackson!" It's like telling me how many cookie chips are in the cookie dough. It's like, they just scattered that in there, bro!'
Boyega then goes on to say that Star Wars' super-white fanbase is only willing to accept black actors in specific roles.
'They're okay with us playing the best friend, but once we touch their heroes, once we lead, once we trailblaze, it's like, "Oh my God, it's just a bit too much! They're pandering,"' the actor added, while also acknowledging that being cast in the franchise was a 'fundamental moment' in his career.
Apparently lost on Boyega is the fact that Star Wars fans were actually disappointed that more wasn't done with his character of Finn. Many argued that he should have been the main character of the sequel "trilogy" (if you can call it that).
Disney left him to perform side quests and run around screaming "REEEEEEEEEEEY!" all the time.
(No but really, he ran around yelling her name A LOT)
Here's an idea, John: Be grateful for winning the lottery ticket of getting to be featured in a Star Wars trilogy.
It's not the fans' fault your storyline sucked.

Back during the Golden Age of the Big Studios, when actors were under contract to the moguls, they could not make any public statements of a political nature at all unless they got approval from the studio bosses first.
Sam Goldwyn knew that if they allowed the actors to say whatever they wanted, half their audiences would disappear, and take their money with them..........
How is anyone to know what skin color a stormtrooper is under all that white armor?
The weird thing is how in a multispecies galaxy, all the storm troopers must be human to fit in that human shaped armor. That really limits the recruiters’ opportunity for success, lol.

lando? wasn’t he from another planet system that doesn’t recognize color, Creed or even how many eyes or arms one may have? the only way they judge is if a blaster is pointed at them and the only judgement is “can I take ‘em”. other than that society is colorless. except for those damn storm troopers. they are always white.

Let’s face it in their woke racism the Disney execs sidelined Bodega by having him kiss the short fat and homely Asian girl.
She was such a pointless character (they deliberately killed her beautiful and heroic sister) that her role was minimized in subsequent films.
Pairing the two minorities was stereotypical racism, but then leftists are racist.
Let’s remember they created a buffoonish Trump look alike villain and then had him thrown around in the movie because that made them feel good.
The sequels are trash, deliberating changing the story because it was “racist” for Rey to benefit from her bloodline, and killing all the best characters because Hollywood likes to kill heroes. Oh and then there was the sidelining of “toxic masculinity”.
Star Wars is now junk.

I feel for these actors who could have shined with incredible, Lucas-based STARWARS characters, relationships, and plot ... not the woke, sexist, cultural reengineering we were force fed.
I don’t think I ever saw Denzel Washington play a black man. He just played a character.
I seem to recall seeing an ad for a movie he was in. He played a poor black father (trash collector?) who felt he’d done his duty as bread winner. I guess his son wanted more love. I don’t know where the scriptwriters went with that. Anyway, that could have been sufficiently reality-based and non-preachy to be acceptable.
I was taught to respect anyone who had “a good honest job.” That would include trash collectors and exclude Hunter Biden.

Did he not see the "returns" for Disney's "Snow White"? - which had the same problem with its star, i.e. claiming the original Snow White was racist, bigoted and misogynistic.

The franchise took a dump, actually before, but absolutely the second Disney got it’s slimy little DEI fingers on it.

You are correct that early stormtroopers were clones, circa Ben Kenobi as a youngish man.
Later, as the war dragged on (so circa Luke Skywalker), the Empire switched to cheaper and less effective brainwashed draftees.
Han was a Imperial pilot wash out and eventually demoted down to infantry. (I believe he hit a superior officer; can’t recall; a serious of misadventures, regardless.)
Shortly thereafter (the original movie), Luke was faced with a possible draft, but was seriously considering pilot academy when he ran into two droids and an old man.
By the time this guy came along (Luke an old fat anti-MAGA asshat), it was all draftees.

This is too cute. Iger and his people know what they are doing. They are not stupid. This is the second “star” trashing the brand. It is not believable that Iger, etc. can’t control the declarations of their stars. Not only have they shot themselves in the Foot but they have painted the bullseye right there in the middle between the ankle and the toes.
