Back during the Golden Age of the Big Studios, when actors were under contract to the moguls, they could not make any public statements of a political nature at all unless they got approval from the studio bosses first.

Sam Goldwyn knew that if they allowed the actors to say whatever they wanted, half their audiences would disappear, and take their money with them..........
