Wait, Whut? (Stupid Vanity)
Curiousity | 03/03/2025 | By Laz A. Mataz

Ok, so, I have a serious question.

Light is not infinitely fast, and it is the universe's speed limit.

Things that have mass cannot travel at the speed of light.

There are galaxies and objects over 93 billion light years away.

But the age of the universe is 13.8 billion years.

Even if Star A was travelling at the opposite direction of Star B, and even if it was traveling at the impossibly-fast speed of light, it could only be that the two stars are 26.6 billion light years apart.

But we see objects 93 billion light years away.

Please try to reconcile these two facts.

🤔

It might make you unhappy to hear it, but the most Occam’s Razor answer might be that the God of Israel created both the light and the lights.

Yeah, kinda leaning in that direction.

Light has a speed limit traveling through the medium of space /time, but the expansion of that medium itself in not bound by the same limit.

We do “know,” however, that spacetime is one “thing.”

Can't we get the House and Senate to outlaw spacetime? It gives me anxiety.

Some one once said there are only two possibilities in this universe. Either we are the only inhabitants of the universe or we are not, either scenario is terrifying.

The universe has expanded faster than the speed of light.

And the outside edge of the universe isn't expanding, all of space is.

And we can see only a very tiny portion of the total universe.

Light years, you’re talking about spacetime, so the edge of the universe is not just the edge of space, it’s the edge of time. If space is expanding, so is time.

We sent out the space probe in 1977, travelling 50,000 mph. Now half a century later it has traveled about 5/6 of a light day.

The universe has expanded faster than the speed of light.

I have a speeding ticket court date. I intend to argue that EVERYONE is speeding, at faster than the speed of light, so I should not be selectively prosecuted.

Obviously, star A took the carpool lane...

If space is expanding, so is time.

If time is expanding, why are the years going by more quickly?

We as humans do not have the ability to comprehend certain things- much like insects cannot understand algebra.

I think there is a mistake in terminology. I think it is possible they used “Diameter” when they should have used “Circumference” for the 93 billion figure.

But we see objects 93 billion light years away.

I don't think that statement is accurate.

Here's my limited understanding of this:

We see light from objects that were much closer when they emitted it, but due to cosmic expansion, those objects are now estimated to be up to 46.5 billion light-years away (which is the calculated radius of the observable universe—meaning the farthest regions whose light has reached us).

We observe light that has traveled for up to 13.8 billion years (since the Big Bang).

However, because the universe has expanded while that light was traveling, the regions that emitted it are now much farther away—up to 46.5 billion light-years distant today.

I am not a cosmologist but I’d rather worry about how far spacetime stretches...I’d rather worry about how far my yoga pants stretch...than about the Congress.
Remember only a few months ago we were worried about the election. That went well.
Cheer up, spring happens in 17 days. No matter how stretchy spacetime is!

Those estimations are not accurate. In fact, they are just words invented by humans. “Experts”, who produce “estimations” have limited knowledge of nature laws.
