‘I’m giving up my Tesla because of Elon Musk’
The Telegraph ^ | Feb 15 | James Titcomb

Posted on 02/15/2025 9:47:03 AM PST by RandFan

When Ric Harris traded in his ageing Mercedes for a Tesla Model 3, he was instantly converted.

“It was a bit like having a spaceship,” says the 51-year-old computer programmer. “It saved me an absolute fortune in fuel; the only thing it’s had done is tyres and topping up the windscreen washer fluid.”

When he acquired the car on a company scheme, Harris did not consider the politics of Tesla’s billionaire owner too closely. “Elon Musk just seemed like a really interesting person. Everything he was doing seemed really positive,” he says.

Four and a half years later, the car’s lease is expiring. And despite it being one of the best vehicles he has ever driven, Harris has no intention of keeping it.

“It’s a brand that, from my point of view, has become toxic. It would be like buying a VW Beetle in 1939 Germany.”

I still wouldn’t buy an EV, but if anyone can solve the issues still plaguing them, my money’s on Elon.

I’m not sure he came to many Freepers mind until be bought Twitter for $45 BILLION and that made him instantly admired here, at least to many more libertarian types including me!

Maybe others were just suspect? His conversion has been in public and lets not forget it was only 2 months before the election he put his money where his mouth was.

I remember posting something to that effect i.e will he chip-in? He did and in a big way but he left it late as possible because of the regulations or reporting requirements including running a lotto in the swing states and giving voters millions of dollars- genius!

This whole thing has been very recent so I don’t blame Freepers for being wary in this case!

He spent 45b on Twitter… to advocate for free speech. He is all in. Unfortunately the demographic for Teslas are not MAGA types so becoming the liberal medias villains surely will hurt him in the short term

Or how much wildlife is killed making “green” energy to power his EV.

At least the bird incinerator at Ivanpah, CA is being shut down.

As someone who knows something about the electromechanical system design business, Tesla has done an outrageously great job of getting all the performance that can be had out of EVs. It is truly remarkable technology.

Now if they could only solve the electricity storage problem. If only...

If you have some money and you can afford a second car, you should consider buying a Tesla to support Elon Musk.

Like you said, it'll hurt Elon Musk's bottom line because we are a bunch of normal guys who's not going to buy an EV.

Lindy Li, a former DNC fundraiser, pointed out that it's like a religion to the Left. They believe that they are truly saving this planet when they were buying an EV.

I remember it was weeks before the election I was posting to you will Musk get the checkbook out for Trump?

He did in the end ...

Now we know he was his biggest donor but he left it very late because he wanted it under wraps

Does he really care about the money? People like Elon are wired differently than you and me. I think for him, he just likes the challenges, the money is just a means to that end for him.

“I don’t recall when I started standing up for Elon. It has been a while.”

Me too.

I don’t agree with everything he does. I don’t have to. But I admire the guy’s business acumen

What is this narcissistic bombastic Alt Leftist Brit doing owning a car at all? He should be leading by example and riding the bus or the tube to show the way to “save the plant”.

What a liar.

He’s dumping it because it’s already at the end of its useful life and there’s no value in keeping it.

And this pussy boy would have bought one too if he thought he could buy status from it.

There is an excellent clip of Musk responding to this question. Some smug fake new punk asked if he feared his stand would hurt advertising revenues at X. 1st he looked stunned the question was even asked then he got angry. “Blackmail me with money?”

Are these Alt Leftists really stupid enough to think they can “hurt” the richest man in the world by trading in their Tesla’s?

All they do is demonstrate is their childish political bigotry and mindless hate

True. My son just bought one as a novelty. I drove it and it will beat my C7 Vette to sixty. I smiled as my son shot by.

Its just another technology to me. With current charging infrastructure I wouldn’t have one as my primary car but would consider one as a secondary car if i commuted and the prices came down. I don’t have any delusion owning one ‘saves the planet’ and doubt many people do.

I’ve recently seen 2 Teslas with bumper stickers in my city. One that says ‘Oust Elon from Tesla’ and the other ‘I bought this before we knew Elon was crazy.’ ...as if anyone cares about their opinion.
