Olivia Dunne sounded the alarm about the lack of viewership in women’s gymnastics and suggested that the judges and the scoring system may be to blame.
Dunne fired off an uncharacteristic critical post on X about the state of the sport.
It came as LSU was upset in an SEC matchup against Arkansas. The Tigers came into the meeting as the No. 2 squad in the country.
“I am sitting here watching NCAA gymnastics and the empty seats are concerning. I care deeply about the growth in women’s sports especially in the NCAA,” she wrote. “If you want fans to enjoy the sport and increase viewership, you have to look at what makes the crowds go crazy! People understand what a perfect 10 is and want people who do things that look great to be rewarded.
“Too many deductions taken at a judge’s discretion feels the same as watching a basketball game that’s constantly interrupted with penalties or a football game with flags on every play.

Olivia, I like woman’s tennis, I think it’s the short skirts.
Maybe best to recall that FR folks watching the NFL do it while taking a knee.
God knows how all that got forgotten.
Have you seen their uniforms lately, they’re almost nude as it is now.
That, and the fact that they do nothing now but try for 3-pointers, the way baseball players seem to be trying to hit a home run every flipping pitch.
We’ll gladly tune in to watch Livvy Dunne but as for the sport........
BS judging has been part of gymnastics all my life what with Cold War politics and other stuff.
That was why Nadia K’s “10” was so remarkable; both East and West judges aligned.
If one actually wanted objective performance one could set the scoring accordingly and use modern cameras + machine learning/AI to consistently find breaks from perfect technique.
(They don’t really want that, they just want to force people to watch their insufferable leftism).
Warm oil works much better than mud.
Olivia Dunne’s collegiate gymnastics career ended this past spring. She is, in effect, retired from the sport. So maybe this is a veiled comment on the way it used to be when she competed for LSU?
I don't even think it's a joke anymore.
Soviet-bloc rigged judging put me off, so fifty years ago I quit watching judged contests—gymnastics, figure skating, diving, Dancing with the Stars LOL, Angel Hernandez, etc.—because of the subjectivity. The only reason I’ll watch boxing is that a knockout can short-circuit bad judging.
Yes, she is definitely worth watching.
“That, and the fact that they do nothing now but try for 3-pointers, the way baseball players seem to be trying to hit a home run every flipping pitch.”
Yep, and before that it was “Guard brings ball up-court, throws it to the 7 footer, he gets fouled and maybe makes one of two free throws”
Basketball was fun to watch during the days of the “passing game” as run by Doug Moe and a few others. When the giant guys took over a friend said “Basketball: Big black guys bumping into each other.” Now it’s 3 pointers. Boring. Any gym rat can make those.
Why aren’t the feminists supporting women’s sports? I’ve got men’s sports to occupy my time.
I treat women’s and men’s gymnastics with equal distain.
“Serve alcohol and the crowds will come out for women’s sports such as Curling.”
Ten Cent Beer Night will put meat in the seats.
