I've noticed, as of late, the quality of the arguments on Free Republic have declined. This is especially true as regards the H1B argument.
I have no intention of rehashing this argument, nor the points therein. I am speaking only to the tone and tenor of our forum participants.
Musk did us no favors by being so confrontational about this issue, and may have inadvertently sparked the furor. I fault him for that. I see he's trying to cool this down now, and that is to his credit.
However, it is my belief that the Deep State saw an opening and drove a wedge into it, to separate people on different sides of the argument, who normally would be backing Trump.
As I wrote elsewhere:
It's kinda amazing that the Deep State can ring a bell and we salivate like a Pavlovian dog.
You think we'd know better by now.
That point aside, repeatedly, I'm seeing a lot of posters lately are being rather personal as opposed to arguing the merits of their case. That behavior sheds a lot more heat than light.
It’s as if attorneys were to argue in court:
Atty 1: “Where’d you get your law degree, you fat loser? A crackerjack box? Your client is GUILTY and you are a blind FREAK if you can’t see that!”
Atty 2: “Oh, talk about blind! I understand you are a faggot in your personal life, too! Do you molest boys, you creep? YOU should be the one on trial!”
Judge: “Gentlemen, can we return to the facts of th...”
Atty 1: “Oh just shut the eff up, judge, and play with yourself under your robe, like you always do.”
Atty 2: “Yeah, shut up, you twatwaffle! I never liked you, now I know why!”
In short, I hope that people can dial things down a notch and present their cases with a lot less invective.
I myself have been guilty over the years of being nothing less than an online terrorist, but I do now see the errors of that path, especially here, where we are all one big family.
This is an important issue and we need to discuss it. I suggest we at least wait until our President is inaugurated, or, if it is important to discuss now, that we do so with a lot less invective. We are not Democrat Underground.
“but he needs to play a little more ‘chesslike’.”
True.
But he also said what he believes .
What he believes isn’t putting America and Americans first.
Laz thanks for keeping the H-1B issue bubbling to the top. We need to keep it there as long as possible. Go America! MAGA!!
“However, it is my belief that the Deep State saw an opening and drove a wedge into it, to separate people on different sides of the argument, who normally would be backing Trump.”
I think we are going to see this tactic employed universally against Trump.
They’ve taken on the attitude of the MSM and the culture at Large.
People don’t reason and they don’t think they just have visceral reactions and they need to prove that their feelings are right.
For so long the media has been hit and run, put out whatever information they please and then when it’s proven wrong they just ignore it and go on to the next faux crisis while people are still really and believing in the previous crisis.
So what we have is always confrontational arguments instead of reasoning arguments.
bttt
That's not the purpose of this thread, and I state it in the original post.
I'm speaking about the tone and tenor of this forum. You'll note that nearly all the posters are speaking about that topic.
If people don’t think that for the Left and the Deep State to have repeatedly cast this lure in an attempt to stir things up and get bites, they certainly haven’t been paying attention.
It is a subject worthy of discussion, and we should discuss it.
H1B visa abuse is a serious problem.
Student visa abuse, including overstay, also a serious problem.
If famously foreign-spiced Elon and Vivek, coming in as hot as they did, were not expecting pushback from highly-educated, highly-credentialed, highly-experienced, plain vanilla Americans...none of whom are on trial here, by the way...that’s on them.
That is, indeed, a partial reason for my posting this thread.
This thread is like an arsonist complaining about all the smoke.
I've seen it written that the Rats could possibly use the issue to damage DJT. I surely hope that that isn't allowed to happen.
Well look who’s stirring the pot, the troublemaker Laz. For those who accused me of using hyperbole, I wouldn’t do that in a million years. For those who accused me of being egotistical, it’s not true I’m very very humble and you don’t like it because I am superior to you in every way. For those of you who accuse me of being a lazy slob, I’m really a go-getter . . I just don’t feel like doing anything today . . tomorrow doesn’t look good either. For those of you who accuse me of being a drunkard, I only drink on days that end in “y”, doctors orders. I could go on and on but I have to take a nap right now.
Heckle and Jeckle.
That goes way back. “See you next week with a brand new show.”
Laz et al. To me, the left is in a situation where the RAT Party has proved itself to be incompetent and aground and the MSM has to “create” non-existent conflicts and clashes within MAGA and the Right in general for the Deep State to leverage.
And, of course, we have those in our ranks who live for conflict and negativity, and they are salivating at the possibilities.
I have reached a point with FR where I find it a great source of references, but the discourse is best just ignored. A pithy comment comes to mind, but I will let it pass.
Yeah, I blame Vivek. He is the one who started it and got Elon all wound up. Then, like the little weasel he is, Vivek bails out early and leaves Elon holding the bag.
Maybe putting those two together wasn’t the best idea.
Flame away as Laz did so much in the past? Et tu Brute’?
My situation is tenuous and it shouldn’t be.
They are a cabal. They look out for themselves.
They put their visas above performance!!!!!!!!
You no doubt have insight beyond most. The only point I want to make is that this is an attempt to obfuscate the real problem of illegal immigration. H1B from out of the blue is an effort to divide and conquer US.
Good post, Laz. Spot on accurate.
Elon and Vivek said their pieces, and I found the reactions comical. Everybody on the internet are instant geniuses when a subject comes up.
Truthfully, 98% of us don’t know jack squat about even the basics of H1B, but a lot of those know-nothings are more than willing to chime in with their worthless/baseless “opinions”.
Sit down. Shut up. Trust in Trump.
Geezus, he hasn’t even put his hand on the Bible, and the Deep State is making you dance like monkeys.
I lost 1 job to outsourcing and a couple of years later I had to train my H1B replacement. I then left the corporate world and became a trucker only to find that Indian drivers were being hired over Americans. Musk told me to GF myself in the face and then he threatned war on me and everyone else who disagrees. I dont care if Trump sh!+s ice cream, Im not accepting that bs from anyone.
“Yeah, I blame Vivek. He is the one who started it and got Elon all wound up. Then, like the little weasel he is, Vivek bails out early and leaves Elon holding the bag.

Because... perhaps, Vivek sees Musk as his immediate competition for Trump’s approval...?
