The Tone and Tenor of Free Republic (vanity)
Original Content | 12/30/2024 | By Laz A. Mataz

I've noticed, as of late, the quality of the arguments on Free Republic have declined. This is especially true as regards the H1B argument.

I have no intention of rehashing this argument, nor the points therein. I am speaking only to the tone and tenor of our forum participants.

Musk did us no favors by being so confrontational about this issue, and may have inadvertently sparked the furor. I fault him for that. I see he's trying to cool this down now, and that is to his credit.

However, it is my belief that the Deep State saw an opening and drove a wedge into it, to separate people on different sides of the argument, who normally would be backing Trump.

As I wrote elsewhere:

It's kinda amazing that the Deep State can ring a bell and we salivate like a Pavlovian dog.

You think we'd know better by now.

That point aside, repeatedly, I'm seeing a lot of posters lately are being rather personal as opposed to arguing the merits of their case. That behavior sheds a lot more heat than light.

It’s as if attorneys were to argue in court:

Atty 1: “Where’d you get your law degree, you fat loser? A crackerjack box? Your client is GUILTY and you are a blind FREAK if you can’t see that!”

Atty 2: “Oh, talk about blind! I understand you are a faggot in your personal life, too! Do you molest boys, you creep? YOU should be the one on trial!”

Judge: “Gentlemen, can we return to the facts of th...”

Atty 1: “Oh just shut the eff up, judge, and play with yourself under your robe, like you always do.”

Atty 2: “Yeah, shut up, you twatwaffle! I never liked you, now I know why!”

In short, I hope that people can dial things down a notch and present their cases with a lot less invective.

I myself have been guilty over the years of being nothing less than an online terrorist, but I do now see the errors of that path, especially here, where we are all one big family.

This is an important issue and we need to discuss it. I suggest we at least wait until our President is inaugurated, or, if it is important to discuss now, that we do so with a lot less invective. We are not Democrat Underground.

I stayed out of it, but remember the Balkan discussions being *very* heated.

I can behave badly, anytime you want to report abuse on my part to the “front office” please do.

Nazis guards demanded complete silence from their prisonors when they marched them off to meet their fate.....

I prefer not to report people, and I have seldom seen anything out of you that I’d consider reportable.

Reporting is a stick. I prefer motivating people with carrots.

Feel free to ignore my call for voluntary action, that’s perfectly okay by me.

Btw, I view you, too, as essentially a good person.

"Let me ask you something: Your inference that I give BJ's.... how exactly does that elevate the forum or address real concerns you may have (and that I share) about H1B abuse?"

You are putting words in his mouth which is both disingenuous and uncivil. The phrase 'bend your knees' means submission to power and does not mean giving a blowjob - except maybe to just you.

Yes, the Nazis did demand civil obedience from their victims in the concentration camps.

This is what I perceive as the GOP message to the middle class.

" Shut up and we will deport all the illegals but don't try to stop us from replacing you greedy losers with other imported LEGAL immigrants".

The title of your thread should've been 'The Tone and Tenor of Free Republic is Ruined by Deplorables, Fascists and Trumplicans (vanity)'

"BTW, I think I am done engaging with you, in any way. There seems to be no point. You can continue to mark up this thread in any way you wish. All that you will likely achieve is to serve as a perfect example of the topic of this thread. Enjoy your day, and have a good New Years."

Thanks! I'm going to make certain that I have the last word on this thread.

Most of the time the problem is lack of reading comprehension, or at least a failure to read an entire post or reply. Couple that with a tendency to be reactive and you have the formula for incivility.

"This data at the link is unimportant. It is an effort to distract us from the Illegal Immigration flowing over our borders and by plane, flying directly into sanctuary cities and states. "

You're the one distracting. You're insisting we focus on illegal immigration and not H1B visas.

This is not an either/or dilemma. We can work to stop illegal immigration and work to prevent H1B abuse. Doing one doesn't mean you have to exclude doing the other.

I always kinda liked you both, but this - right here - is what the OP was writing about.

Assloads of drama and voodoo... over H1B for fks sake. A literal drop in the bucket of issues taking us down. I don't get the passion here - which is why I think something else is going on.

I can very much be a NOT a nice person - but I try save that level of hate for issues that matter more.... like Ukraine, our impending bankruptcy or the foreigners that come in FR thinking they own the place.

H1B - WTaF?

All of the work visa abuse an issue affecting millions of Americans. It may not be affecting you but it’s real and it is a huge problem.

How noble.

I think so, too. Thanks for noticing.

I'm quite happy with the eloquence I strive for when expressing myself. I don't care for the gutter talk that passes for witty repartee.

And I especially don't like the throwaway digs that people toss at the end of their posts to make them feel better.

the Left/Deep State saw an opening for division, exploited it fully, and set us on each other.

That's something they will keep repeating, trying to divide us and get us squabbling. They'd love nothing better than to reduce our movement to pettiness and spite. We just need to stop ourselves from going beyond spirited debate to irrational leftist-like nastiness.

Which (admittedly) can be difficult at times.

It’s fine for your parents not to have been born here so long as they were both U.S. citizens at the time of your birth.

"Fine" for what? If you aspire to or are nominated for the Presidency or Vice Presidency, both of your parents are required to have "natural born citizenship" status, that is, they both must have been born in this country. That is what "natural born citizenship" means.

If both parents were born elsewhere but subsequently moved to America and then applied for citizenship through e.g. the naturalization process, that does not satisfy their NBC requirement. You would thus not be eligible to hold or be nominated for either of those positions.

The Democrats have been notorious for violating this requirement with impunity, and with no apparent pushback, both in the case of Obama and in the case of Harris.

Absolutely disgraceful. The Constitution is crystal clear on the need to prevent any foreign entanglement whatsoever existing on the part of holders of the highest offices in the land.

Having parents who were not born in America is a foreign entanglement if you are seeking or being nominated for the Presidency.

Wow! Love yourself much? I don't think that your high opinion of yourself is shared by others. .
