We Asked Cardiologists To Share The One Food They Would Never Eat, And Some Of The Answers Might Surprise You

Most of us are aware that certain habits are flat-out terrible for our hearts. Smoking? Forget about it. A sedentary lifestyle — yep, that will eventually get you.

But with diet culture still running rampant, the foods that are “good” and “bad” can feel a bit murkier. The keto diet, for example, encourages piling on the bacon. And while it may help you lose weight, something about chomping on bacon every day feels — not great.

If you’re eating with your heart health in mind (and we all should be, at least a little bit!), you can read through the American Heart Association’s diet and lifestyle recommendations. Or, if you really want to cut to the chase, you can find out which foods top cardiologists avoid 99% of the time.

While none of these foods will kill you if eaten once in a while, cardiologists say these are the foods they never, or very rarely, eat.

I wonder what age group these cardiologists are? The younger ones..and this goes for all types of doctors...have been taught and believe so much crap it’s frightening. I have been smoking pipes since 1957 and just about every issue I’ve had these younger quacks attribute to that. Everything from eye problems to joint pain. One dumshit even told me I’d have to quit pipe for a year before he’d do a surgery. On the other hand, my cardiologist...same age as me.. says no problem and enjoys them himself. Moral of story...get an old school doc whenever you can!

I don’t know if I’d go that far, but here’s a story for you.

I was recently standing in front of the cheese bin at my local grocery store. Standing next to me was an old guy with a Grizzly Adams beard.

Me: My doctor said I have to cut down on cheese a little.
Grizzly Adams: Yeah, they’re always trying to stir up sh!t.

Sorry, steak lovers, but this is another food you should probably avoid most of the time.

“I avoid really fatty red meat, like highly marbleized steak, because it’s very high in saturated fat,” Dr. Leonard Lilly, the chief of cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, said. “Clinical studies have shown that saturated fat consumption is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.”

I don’t eat much red meat but, for Christmas my brother made an outstanding Prime Rib Roast.

I at the pieces with the fat on it.

Luv it once in while but, probably won’t have steak for another 2-4 weeks.

Ditto for bacon.

I don’t have it very often but, I do luv it.

Deep Fried Chicken.

Love the Fried Chicken from Valero Gas Station or our local grocery store Nob Hill

Once in a while I eat plain old fashion donuts and only the outside. I almost never eat the ring.

I will not touch margarine.

Butter is not bad for you.

Same with eggs.

I don’t know if I’d go that far, but here’s a story for you.

It is a strong statement for sure. Still, after covid, and after 9 surgeries in a 5 year period, some of which were during covid, receiving bad advice from doctors on blood thinners, diabetes, covid, etc, I found I'm my best health advocate and trust no doctors. I nearly certain I'm still alive today because I ignored bad advice from many doctors.

I agree with Grizzly Adams at the grocery store.

After hearing some of my own doctors regurgitating liberal medical positions, I have come to agree with you. Biggest loss of faith in experts that I can remember.

Indeed. It's frightening hearing doctors spew information I know is wrong. Very eye opening.

Sorry but I’m not ever giving up Steak or fried chicken. Granted we try to only eat fried chicken about once per month. Steak every freaking week. 😉

“I’ll have what he’s having...”

That would be a good diet, regular exercise, and a heavy dose of testosterone. Lots and lots of testosterone.

My mother made the BEST chopped chicken liver I have ever tasted. No Jewish deli could come close. I ate it quite a bit as a kid and she lived to be 100.

We researched what cardiologists know about nutrition and the results might surprise you.

You are spot on BUT why would anyone ask a cardiologist in the first place? They know a little about nutrition in general. Certainly my cardiologists didn’t know much and didn’t pretend to.

And for those who cannot bear the surprise answers, here they are:

Chopped liver
Breakfast sausages
Margarine
Steak
Bacon
Deep-fried chicken
Doughnuts
Bologna

Thanks, as if that was too hard to post by the OP (100 words appear in the FR article feed, and typically a 300 excerpt is allowed in the body).

With all the boilerplate text and clickbait, the best 300 words to excerpt are almost never the first 300. I prefer scientific papers where the abstract giving a quick summary of the results is first followed by the full article giving the details.

For all the wrong reasons.

Surprise, surprise! /s

Cardiologists display stupidity when they demonstrate confirmation bias to qualify their education and orthodox, defective medicine.

Proof that cardiologists may be capable of doing surgery, but don’t know squat outside of what to cut!

Or...they make these recommendations so they will have MORE CUSTOMERS!
