Revealed: Meaning of cryptic message written on bullets assassin used to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as his wife reveals his family had received mystery 'threats'
Daily Mail UK ^ | December 5, 2024 | James Reynolds

he words scrawled on the bullets used to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson closely resemble the title of a book criticizing insurance companies and the tactics they use to deny claims, it has been revealed.

Health insurance boss Brian Thompson, 50, was shot in the back and calf early on Wednesday by a masked man who appeared to be waiting for him outside the Hilton hotel in Manhattan, before succumbing to his injuries in hospital.

Detectives investigating the shooting reportedly found shell casings with the words 'depose', 'deny' and 'defend' inscribed on them.

They are now working to determine what the words mean and if they could possibly hint at a motive for the slaying of the 50-year-old.

Curiously, the messages bear similarity to the title of a 2010 book on 'why insurance companies don't pay claims and what you can do about it', called 'Delay, Deny, Defend'.

Critics allege the tactic is used by insurance companies to 'ensure your claim is either never paid or paid at a rate far below what you deserve'.

The revelation came as Mr Thompson's grieving widow, with whom he has two sons, claimed that her husband had received threats before he was shot.

'There had been some threats,' Paulette Thompson, 51, told NBC News as she broke her silence in her first comments since her husband was killed.

Also, he only shot twice, according to the several reports I read.

How did the police come up with three words on three casings?

>NYC is a sanctuary city so the possibilities of cruminal activity are much more than they should be and thus criminals can plan, execute, and clean up activities more discreetly than in law-abiding communities.

It seems like there’s just too many distractions. He used a citibike and a silencer? He visited starbucks? He signed the bullets and rackslided 2 live bullets out of the gun? The cops have to be scrambling with all these mixed signals.

True, true. Comfortable working environments too.

Any time I see anyone in comments even say anything like, "hey this was someone's son, father, etc". The mob comes for them for even suggesting empathy or sympathy.

The expert investigators never mention the man leaning against the storefront in the upper right of the video at the moment o f the shooter firing the pistol. Maybe he was the spotter for the shooter. Has to be an inside operation for the shooter to be in position at the right time to step up on the curb just a second after the victim walked past the shooter and the spotter. Spotter set the timing up for the shooter. How could the shooter travel across the City and be in position at specific moment without a spotter? The shooter is shown on vid to be talking on his cell phone, bet it was the spotter.

UnitedHealthcare has the highest rate of denials (37%) compared to all the other insurance companies and also the largest user of AI in its decision making on claims.

He made $10 million a year.
He could have hired his own bodyguards.

I’ll be surprised if they catch the guy. He looked pretty professional. Had a real meal deal silencer. The gun jammed and he cleared it like a pro then went in and shot the victim again. Calmly put the gun away and rode off on an Ebike.

This is quite a telling graph that someone I know just sent me:

image.png

Almost a third of claims were/are denied. Some brought up interesting alternatives, but even those alternatives, could have been the result of revenge, but I think this graph tends to lend a degree of credence to the revenge of a loved one lost because of a claim that was denied.

A loved one lost, that was perceived that they could have been saved if the insurance coverage had not denied the claim, can be motivation for revenge regardless of age. A child probably raises that likelihood considerably, without question.

If he had a Failure To Feed and racked the slide, a live round would eject. Two shots plus one live round ejected on the ground equals three casings.

The video looks like it was filmed with a potato. It's difficult to tell if the shooter had Failure To Eject (FTE) issues, Failure To Feed (FTF) issues, or both.

If there is anything about this negative to the trans "community", the story will never be released. i.e. the TN shooter's writings were kept secret.

There is a John Grisham book/movie that is centered around an evil insurance company that continuously denies claims hoping the patient will die before they are forced to pay out. Maybe similar circumstances here.

I don’t buy the hostility towards the dead man here frankly (rhetorical)

If we go down this dark road it’ll get ugly fast

I’ve often wondered how folks like the sulzbergers or Soros or Mikey wiseman or BLM heads and so forth escape such wrath

We can all sympathize with frustrations but assasinatins would be a dangerous chapter

I said from getgo this guy was party to someone denied coverage that may have saved them

He looks under 40 so I’m purely guessing he lost a child and he’s pissed

He planned it and may get away with it

But boy u know they are looking

He obviously wasn’t worried about dna or prints

So not a criminal sort by nature
