Trump Team Signs Agreement to Allow F.B.I. Background Checks for Nominees
The New York Times ^ | Dec. 3, 2024Updated 6:21 p.m. ET | Maggie Haberman, Charlie Savage and Jonathan Swan

President-elect Donald J. Trump’s transition operation announced on Tuesday that it had belatedly signed an agreement with the Justice Department that will allow the F.B.I. to conduct background checks on people Mr. Trump intends to appoint as senior officials in his new administration.

F.B.I. background checks have long been a routine part of transitions. Law-enforcement vetting of a president-elect’s senior team is normally part of decisions about whether they can be entrusted with access to national security secrets, and senators traditionally want to see such dossiers during the confirmation process.

But Mr. Trump, who is hostile to the F.B.I. because of its role in various criminal and counterintelligence investigations into him, had let weeks pass without signing the agreement.

His team considered bypassing the F.B.I. and instead using private investigators. Under that plan, Mr. Trump would grant security clearances to his picks after his inauguration, and the Senate would not have access to the usual vetting materials.

Despite the signing of the agreement, it remains unclear whether Mr. Trump’s team plans to send the names of all officials requiring a security clearance or Senate confirmation to the F.B.I. for vetting. The announcement did not say whether Mr. Trump would require his appointees to undergo the process or was simply allowing the F.B.I. to begin looking at those who are willing to submit to its scrutiny.

We are seeing why the Democrats focused on reducing the Republican Senate majority, using the now usual 3 AM ballot drops to hold Democrat seats in Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin. If there were a 56 or 57 seat Republican majority in the Senate, it would have lessened the leverage of Murkowski, McConnell, etc.

People still don’t trust Trump. That’s a mystery

Pence, Sessions, Barr, Wray…Trump trusted them. How did that work out?

” Second his personal life while not criminal has been (and I’m being kind here ) somewhat reckless which speaks to judgement if not character.”

Yet we have a president who drools on children and no one says a word.

“Pence, Sessions, Barr, Wray…Trump trusted them.”

Did he?

‘How did that work out?’

Well…he’s back in the presidency. The fake news media is losing viewers from the 50% viewership drop they saw from pre election to the week post election. They’re gone.

Trump has effected a loss for thee Democrats have lost the senate, the House, the White House and the popularity vote. All the chairmanships. All power. They have no power The only power they have is the power to destroy what they can in the next 2 months which they will do while the country that voted them out in favor of Trump, not the stinking GOP Senate nor the wimp GOP House nor the fluffy non dependable Justice department, watches the destructive nature of the democrats in full view.

The media and the Justice department will now be off Trump’s case and grudgingly allow him to carry out his plans to restore law and order based on the Constitution. Those offices that hounded him will be closed down or replaced with people who will live up to the constitution

The senate has already muttered that they have no problem with voting in Trumps pick for the FBI chief who once said -on video- that the first thing he would do is close down the FBI building and reopen it as a museum to the deep state

So what’s the problem? You have a time constraint. You think, like my pushy hard headed conservative in name only suburban women friends that he should have done this in a certain period of time?

Look at the news headlines. The media has imploded. They’re talking about chappaquiddick and Jon Benet Ramsey. It’s going nowhere but worse for them

You believe them? That Trump is going to trust a Wray FBI to run his personnel picks? I don’t.

“ When will folks remember to consider the source...”

When they realize the media is FOS. I knew it about 25 years ago.

Where is Trumps agreement to trust this FBI in writing? What’s in it?

More importantly what happened to FR that they trust headlines?

“ Why? Did that happen for Clinton, Obama, and Biden nominees?

What a stupid stupid stupid thing for Trump to do! Sometimes I wonder about him. 😏🤔”

You buy this headline? I’m surprised

I didn’t buy a lot of headlines that turned out to be true. You just never know.

“I didn’t buy a lot of headlines that turned out to be true. You just never know.”

I haven’t come across that problem myself.

That’s the reason you trust the headline? No othe consideration?

The senate has already muttered that they have no problem with voting in Trumps pick for the FBI chief who once said -on video- that the first thing he would do is close down the FBI building and reopen it as a museum to the deep state.

But Trump is going to trust the FBI? Tge people who ravaged his wife’s lingerie drawers?

The guy’s kind of a lightweight anyway...

The 4 books he has written and those written by others, all available on Amazon, suggest he has expert qualifications to help Trump clean out that particular area of the swamp.

Additionally, he will have a deep network of both active and inactive experts immediately available to assist him.

Hegseth is done. He is not going to get confirmed. He was a poor choice. Its time to move on. I’m not a huge DeSantis fan but he’s a far superior choice.
